oh, right °°'
Currently I am uploading my art in the portal and linking it on twitter and instagram with tags like #art #digitalart. Does anyone have any tips on using tags to reach a wider audience?

With Twitter be careful with how many tags you use, so I would say about 5 at max on there, mainly because you might want to balance the hashtags with commentary. With Instagram you can have max 30, so far as I remember. You can hide the hashtags in a sense. I would say use less because you don't need that many in most cases. Your message becomes blank if you use too many hashtags.
The hashtags mentioned are the two most popular and relevant hashtags. Instagram tells you how many posts there are for a hashtag when you first use it. You can look up the popularity of Twitter hashtags.
So for general rules with hashtags on each site:
Twitter: 3-5 usually. Use popular ones such as #art #illustration #digitalart etc...
Ex.
Just another drawing of Ruby I had lying around! #art #illustration #digitalart #vectorart
Instagram:
30 max, message blanks out if you go over. You can "hide" them by using several lines with ".".
Ex.
Just another drawing of Ruby I had lying around!

.
#art #illustration #robot #characterdesign #digitalart #vector #vectorart #characterdesign #oc #originalcharacter [etc... etc]
You can really go crazy on Insta, but use wisely for twitter.

Just discovering this thread while I struggle to ink properly. Seems like a cool place.
Ah the Art Forum.. funny how a place can feel so familiar yet so foreign at the same time.
Crazy that I used to check this place every day and keep up with every post.

Yes indeed people wanna draw porn, I am one of those folks, but also love making myself paintings, does this make me a rat of culture for doing so? Making highly cultured illustrations?

I'm making Lemonade

Ooh! I've been making wisteria lemonade lately out of a simple syrup I made out of a ton of blossoms- it turns out that they're invasive and mostly toxic but the flowers make a delicious infusion.

Interesting. I have never considered the possibility of stepping outside of Lemon/water/sugar as the base. How does one go about infusing flowers into simple syrup? and what is the effect on the flavor?
I'm in no way experienced with these things. I just have a lemon tree and have been mixing in fruit and syrups I have in the house/

Ooh, a lemon tree! I used this recipe. It's a lovely floral taste, not weak but it's a bit tricky to balance with the lemon so it doesn't get overriden. Very good in tonic water as well. I've also been making candied orange peels lately and the simple syrup that is a byproduct from that process is killer in my morning tea, do recommend.
sry have i always been this bougie? think we old now

I see, thanks for the link. I'll have to look into that. I don't know if it's the isolation or delusions of grandeur or both, but I'm probably going to be selling lemonade soon. So I'm collecting all the interesting twists I can on the formula.

Does that make you a rat doing paintings? No not really. Do you maEke cultured illustrations? Ehh, sure. Let's go with that buddy.
not a single cloned "ill draw your oc" topic on the front page for once. Comic formatting for posts, pixel art zooming in the portal. ....Things are really improving here.
Just need to add the ability to post short animations to the art portal (to get them out of the movies portal) and well, im not sure what more could be needed on my end.

You're tempting fate with this.
In the meantime, it is pretty nice to see people actually making stuff, trying to improve and all that. Seems like we've got a lot of refugees from other sites since they all decided to implode simultaneously.
man this is an old thread. I don't know why but every time threads like this gets bumped a little bit of me gets excited to see what it was used for back then by people are who are no longer active on the site. even if its mundane topics and simple interests it makes me stop and think about what these people were in when making these posts. of course i don't wanna bump old threads myself, that's pretty stupid really.
As for art itself not much happening for me other than a drawing i made inspired by the album cover forbidden fruit by Monodrome and a time where i improvised making a song about dancing until the lights go out. try to tell a little story but i feel it got lost midway rather quickly.
(apologizes for it being blurry i didn't see it until much later today)
the album in question

I did have a flick through the OC plaza thread and (thankfully) it’s not simply a dumping ground but an active community thread of yesteryear.

On the Art Portal front it is very exciting to see, Tom's been mentioning the major reworks to it for the past few years now, and now they're being implemented. I believe Coauthoring on Art Portal submissions is coming soon as well.

Seriously, this is like the tumblr exodus x100. Deviantart, twitter, instagram all these places are just bleeding artists.

think they should have kept the button while having the link in anyway, some of the art that "Reaches" the front page gets swept away quickly and this might discourage people lazy enough to click on the "art" option from actually seeing what else got featured
