Hey guys, I was wondering how do you set up a uniform color palette window in photoshop? I wanna try to paint something monochromatic and remembered that you can have an entire window of a solid color an about 3 lines of variants. I don't have photoshop installed due to me repairing my computer, but I'm asking just so I don't forget later on.

Hi. Im not aware of that setting but , it sounds like a lot of trouble when you can approach it in a much easier way.

1) You paint the image in the colour you want.
2) You render it with the same colour selected but you set the rendering layers into different modes. Best example would be "multiply" for shading.

Aside from that you can always paint some blobs with the colours you like and then pick them from the blobs , so you are sure you are always picking the same tone. Thats what traditional artists do with their pallete.

Third option is to draw you image in B&w and then add a layer above everything , fill it with "bucket" and then set it to overlay.

There are many easy ways , im sure im missing more. Sorry if i didnt answear your problem , i just feele you are trying to do something easy the hard way :D

Cheers buddy!

You can create a layer on top of your drawing, fill it with a solid colour, and set the blending mode to "Colour". Additional solid fill layers with blending mode "Darken" and "Lighten" can be used to shift the light and dark tones respectively.

If you (rightfully) think that messing with the colours with the three single colour layers is tedious, you can achieve the same effect by using a gradient map adjustment layer, and putting it on top of your layers.

The "Create Adjustment Layer" button is at the bottom of the layers panel, and "Gradient Map..." is towards the bottom of the drop down menu that follows.

The gradient map is simpler to understand and alter than the blending mode layers. Dark colours will be replaced by the left side of the gradient, and light colours will be replaced by the right side of the gradient.

Oh, Art Forum. It's been a while! It has that undisturbed smell to it.

Now that I look back, I completely forget why I became so inactive here... anyways, welcome back everyone?

It's been a while, I believe some time ago Dark posted some links to good reference sites one that was good for poses another that just had pretty models. Coulda been someone else maybe, but I seriously can't remember how to navigate Newgrounds and I don't remember what the art forum blog thing which had all the art tuts and info on it was called.

Everytime I start a new piece I almost always use the last colors I had selected in my two swatches.

Does anyone else have some random quirk they do not exactly style but a weird habit they do when making stuff?

Seconded.

Also, I have an odd pen grip which caused my ring finger to develop a small soft bump to serve as cushion.

When on my tablet, I like to sketch on a light orange canvas with a darker blue linework.
I find it easier to look at the screen and sketch, rather than staring at a white canvas.

i like working on slightly textured backgrounds, i tend to use the white + black out of laziness, but as of late i have been using white and blue/purple for sketching...

I second the habit of not having a plain white background; in addition I tend to draw with max 90% opacity. I feel it makes stuff look less rigid.
