That actually gives me an idea for an activity thread. Start off with an image and each post afterwards adds something to it, just need to call dibs on the next post so we don't have five people posting something on the same image. Then, after say 15-20 posts, reset to a new image.

What do you guy's think about that?

The thread would probably be ravaged by dick jokes though.

here's a wild idea:
If you don't want to help someone if he's not offering payment; just don't help him. There is no need to get all butthurt over someone asking something.

All I did was offer a reasoning behind Sock's post. I didn't get aggressive or whiny, just provided an explanation.

While the coloring and shading is impressive, the anatomy isn't right and gives it away. They look like video game characters rather than photographs of real people.

Once again I wish for an edit post button on these forums. I meant the say the anatomy is good but there are small details that don't seem right, exaggerated traits or flaws.

The only part that gives it away imo are the paint strokes, and the way the hair is done.
Neither of which I disapprove of.

One thing ive noticed about hyper realists, is that they all seem to paint HUGE. My own stuff is pretty large by most standards (7 feet about) but the bulk of my canvas is blank space, and my figures are life size, so they aren't really nearly as large as these guys (these guys being chuck close, the guy in the link, gottfried helnwein, etc.) And having never seen a hyper realist piece in person, I wonder how well they hold up.

A lot of what makes these pieces look so damn sexy all the time is that when you take such a large image, have uber details, and then shrink it down to a viewable size on a computer screen, everything looks extra detailed and pretty. I can imagine that in person if you arent across the room from them they might not have nearly the same effect.

Maybe my next project should just be a giant close up and see if that is at all beneficial to my quest towards better realism.

What's interesting about those is that while they look like photos, they also look like really boring photos. Like what I'd expect to see on the average Flickr account.

You've got the skills, Kamalky Laureano, now let's see you do something interesting with them.

Well done hyper realist work does still look good in person. I've seen a few of Chuck Close's realistic pieces (not the simpler ones that just look realistic from a distance, although I've seen those to and are much cooler than his hyper realistic work), and they are truly stunning up close. To me, how the piece looks up close is what differentiates between good HR work and just alright HR work. There are a few kids in my school that are pushing towards HR, but their work tends to look very good from a distance, but kind of fuzzy right up close. Getting a good sharpness isn't easy.

I know I'm off topic here but I just wanted to test out NG on my iPhone. Other than being unable to watch movies or play games, it's not too shabby. I can post in the forums, listen to the audio portal, view art and even vote on submissions. Can't download songs or upload pictures though.

Happy sockday, birthembop!

Also, re: hyperrealists- you all might want to consider hyperrealist sculptor Ron Mueck- he's pretty intense.

Also have seen his stuff in person, and can't recommend it enough. His sculptures are so realistic I actually felt uncomfortable looking at some of them, like it was tricking my brain into thinking it was real and I shouldn't be staring. Super awesome.
