i suppose so, its just annoying to see something so similar in a anime when i despise anime so much. And they made them pink.....really? pink?
Im not worried or even super worked up its just a pain in the ass that some kid might watch the show, copy that monster and call it his awesome anime character. Because typically thats what 12 year old anime fans do.

You've already basically released your own character type into the public domain by creating that thread in which you instructed others to draw them, thereby releasing your own implied copyright. So now the concept belongs to everyone that wants to draw their own.

So even if they did steal your idea, you would have no legal standing.

I have no problem with people making one of their own, thats the premise to Vexons. But even though they create their own Vexon doesn't mean they can run off and call it their own thing. I mean, im making them their very own character...if they dont appreciate that enough to not run off with my stuff then i dont know what im doing wrong here.
If people want to make their own game, go for it
If they want a fan fiction, go nuts...
I would just respect it if they would give me credit and call it a vexon.

I plan on having a forum somewhere where you can draw your own vexon and ill sprite it and put it in my game as long as the game is running, i take in ideas and a appreciate all of it.
Going off and stealing a vexon and calling it "shadow slasher" is on the same basis of Pirating "OF Rainbows" from Radio Head and saying "Fuck you Thom York!".

Im not saying anyone will or has stolen anything, im just saying it would be extremely unappreciative and stupid.

Well, all you'd have to do is tell them that this show only started airing in the west since the start of April, right?

Anyhow, I believe that the story and concept behind a character design is more important than the design itself.

Toriko seems like it's based off of an idea from another anime called HunterXHunter anyhow. It's not like the professional world's never seen inspiration from other sources, even though it may not be inspiration, but rather a similar idea cooked up that happened to be similar just by coincidence.

Besides, we're talking about a story where everyone's trying to eat God.

You might also want to note that everything I just said was total made up bullshit.

In actually you couldn't copyright any part of your Vexon design concept from the beginning, because 'metal faced cyborg creatures' isn't an original enough concept.

Just like Marvel (or Disney or whatever) can't sue you for violating its copyright on Dr. Doom.

Though you can copyright specific Vexons, the name Vexon, and the exact story of them.

Copy-writing stuff is pretty expensive from what i know. And i have a pretty specific layout for a vexons anatomy and concept and story that i hope to someday coy-write when i have a ton of money to do so.

The idiocy looked intentional. The show looks like it's intended to be a very silly action show, a la One Piece or BoBoBo.
Looking it up on Wikipedia, it IS listed as a comedy series. It began in early 2008. I don't think they stole your idea, Tre, similar though it is.

Nope. Copyrighting is pretty dirt-cheap - in fact, it's free. Registering trademarks and patents, though, those take money. Copy-righting is really just your right to own specific images that you've bought/made, the like, not concepts.

Really, in all honesty, the Vexons are not THAT unique, at first I thought they were Spy Vs. Spy spies.

In general I don't think that unique races/characters are created often, most, if not all are amalgamations of other semi-unique things.

Like how House and Monk are heavily based on Sherlock Holmes.

500 Pages and virtually no art?

Wikigrounds is fast approaching the magic figure of 500 Pages and we are promoting the site heavily to mark the occasion. It therefore concerns us that there is so little ART on it.

The team of regulars does not currnetly include any artists and we know little about how the Art Portal, and the various threads and competitions work. We do have a small section, with a Page about the Portaland just two sample pagesabout what we guessed are major art submissions.

We need some people who can help us decide what the criteria for Notability- meaning possible inclusion in our wiki- on the subject of art. Are there art submissions which we should have pages about- What makes them significant above the run- of-the-mill art submissions? What would we say about them that was worth reading?

Likewise, are there Artists that are worth creating Pages for? What makes them so special? If we created Pages for them, would they have anything on the Page that was not on the artists user page?

I understand that you guys have stacks of competitions- we would NOT want a Page about every one of them, so which are Notable? Which have significance for more than a few weeks?

What other Pages could we have that people would consider significant and useful?

Is the Art 101 user Notable? Apart from saying that it exists and giving a boring list of what is on it, could we tell people something worth saying?

Do you guys have significant Crews ? Do the Flash Crews have much impact here?

I spoke to Turkey on a Stick, who suggested I created a thread here and invited you guys to join in with creating a credible Art section on Wikigrounds. You can do this by writing a few answers to my questions and other thoughts you have here. You can talk to us on the Wikigrounds Club threadif you prefer or you can go to Wikigrounds yourself and contact me there, or join up and join in the editing.

The art section is so small we had to combine it with Audio just so it didn't look totally lame. We know many of you feel that Art doesn't get the attention it deserves and we want you to help us help you to get that balance.

The Art pages will need improved categorising too and if you guys will come and join us, then we will give it a month of specialist attention, when we sort the Art out.

Art specialists could get fast-tracked into admin positions if they are constructive, put in the effort and learn what is going on and how to do things.

Finally, the promotions currently include Secret messages, User News Posts, PMs to key people, a Flash Submissionplanned for the day of 500 (this coming week) and an application for Wiki Spotlight when we hit 500 Pages. If any of you can promote this event at all, please do-
--Wikigrounds is fast becoming a significant source of info- hundreds of people dropped in on April 1st this year to find out about it; hundreds more dropped by to find out about this year's Tank Awards.

Thanks for your attention

I think the problem with the art portal part of the wiki is frankly there isn't all that much to say about it.
It's a pretty straightforward system, it hasn't been remodeled yet, like other portals have in the past.

Ah, but the wiki is there to give info to people who are NOT in the know- people like me don't understand how your Portal works, it is SO different to the more familiar Flash Portal.

Besides, there was years of art on Newgrounds before the johnny-come-lately Art Portal- threads, clubs, competitions, event Flashes about Art and stuff going round the world. I feel a Page called Art on Newgrounds coming on to sum this all up, as a starting point- waddaya think of THAT !

- Oh, please! I wrote the little paragraphs on Scouting and Being Scouted on the Art Portal Page, but I don't know all the details myself. For example I see "2 Scouts" on someones page- does that mean they were scouted by 2 people or that they have scouted 2 people or what?

If we got enough info together we should write 2 pages about this subject with pix, examples etc.

I have to go to bed now...

... one last question. How does Newgrounds Art interact with the outside world- did any really famous art start on Newgrounds? Are there quotes, links, comments about Newgrounds Art and the Art Portal elsewhere? Has is made any impact outside of Newgrounds?

You guys are right with the whole vexon thing. Although its been almost 7 years since i first though them up it doesnt matter. Its my oldest character that ive kept and it has alot of personal history to it, and ive just been pushing the envelope on what they are trying to hold on.

They are not original and maybe i would have been safe a few years ago, when people didnt have to compare everything and break things down and rate it. If i were to make my game it would get compared to lots of stuff and although i can be certain i came up with almost all of it as a middle schooler, it proves nothing. I honestly dont know if im going to keep going with vexons, ive had to change them so much i dont even feel like they belong to me. They seem like the outcome of me trying to keep something beloved alive.

And yes they can be compared to
Spy versus Spy
Mice people
Black Plague Doctors
myrs

Im pretty much done trying to satisfy people.

It means they've scouted two people.
An explanation of the system: The way the scouting system works is that the portal is divided into two sections- scouted and unscouted. The unscouted section is not visible by most people (it is only visible to scouted artists), and is essentially a waiting place for the scouted section, which is what you see when you visit the art portal normally. If you have at least 4 non-sketch works of good quality, someone from the portal can scout you and place you into the normal portal. You can be unscouted if your work is deemed by portal mods to be of inferior quality or if you misbehave in the portal, and this can also have negative effects on the person who scouted you. If someone is unscouted, all people they have scouted become unscouted as well. This can result in big chain reactions, but the system generally turns the portal into something of a merit system to filter out all of the horrible work that's in the unscouted section- if you're good and you get seen, you're allowed into the portal.
I was scouted by Kinsei01 and have personally scouted 23 other artists, for instance.

I could probably have explained that in a more concise manner, but I didn't. Oh well.
