I won't deny I feel really bad and guilty about it, but I do make these sort of decisions with lots of consideration. I'm sure a reg will pick you up.

I like the tree system myself (hopefully an unbiased opinion!) since it makes artists easier to moderate, and I imagine after the growing in period the portal should self-regulate.
Some of the earlier branches, when people were scout happy, are a bit questionable, and I only noticed your branches when someone submitted mediocre MSPaint on the portal page rated 1/5.

i was under the impression that only people you scout... yourself and the person that scouted you would cause an unscout if any one of the people mentioned messes up... but now i understand that the whole brance snaps of from the weak point no matter what fruit is growing on the end... *why am i going so indepth with this tree idea???.. lol*... like so one pointed out early on for the art portal... say in like 5 years time... one of the people right at the core of the tree system lets rubbish in... and removed... a whole side of the art portal would just crumble and slowly be picked back up... dont get me wrong.. the idea is there to stop rubbish getting in... but it effects all the users afterwards beacuse of that ONE user... like at school for example... when ONE kid is naughty... the WHOLE class as to stay behind... its not really fair for them who try to keep a tight grasp on the quality of work coming in when some trigger happy goons who want (Lol look at my uber high scout count) goes off the rails and everyone with them... the one scout a day is a good idea and stops people mass scouting... along with the four art picture before you can be scouted now... im not angry / upset i was unscouted... i know il be rescouted one day... i just think its a bit lame how the whole thing is screwed over by one user... also i think some of the quality of artwork in the portal should be a tad higher...

just give this a bit of thought... how about instead of a long wispy tree of artist... have a few mods or something as your Scouters... and only they can scout?... that way there wouldnt have to be so much moderation on the artportal nor would any rubbish get in*

* - as long as the submissions they make are at the same standard as before...

then instead of blocks of users getting unscouted... only the BEST art is in the art portal... then everyone can view the riff raff of artists in a different area... and any problems in the main art portal can be whisled by views and then reviewed and that artist removed or black listed...

also another thought... how about users who break the art fourm rules / get unscouted have some sort of message when you go to scout them... (telling you why the user was unscouted) so you can scout users who are more trust worthy to stop further collapses in the future?

just a thought...

i think it'd just help alot to be able to blam art submissions, or really, be able to remove them from being visible in the art portal. you can see alot of pieces have awful scores in the portal but still exist therein.

i agree... alot of the stuff in the portal isnt worthy off been there... and removing them would be great to keep the portal looking great...

also with the riff raff artists... alot of the work in there is so poor that children in primary school would give them a run for their money... give them some sort of generic message (this artwork is not good enough for the art portal - please work harder on your enterys before submitting)...

also i think a total Refresh system would be nice... so that once an artist has been unscouted for a month or so they will be removed from the unscouted area... (untill they post something new).. that way it will be alot easyer to scout good art / users and avoid trailing through pages to find them...

just throwing some ideas around... most likey no changes will happen but i think its interesting to see what users like / dislike and think should be improved about the art portal... after all nothing is perfect...

So, quite off topic from all this scouting/unscouting stuff, I had a random thought today.

Does anyone know when the Art Forum's Birthday is? I feel like there has never been a tribute thread or anything to celebrate our beloved stomping grounds' inception. I know its been a few years, but it would be cool to find out when it first started up, and maybe do some sort of project with it!

all i know is i'm thankful i submitted like the first day BMK told me it was up so i was scouted by nogfish who was scouted by mindchamber. unless one of those two acts up i'm safe ^_^

it'd be cool to have set color palettes and let people create creatures to put all together in an environment someone like the collab creator makes

there was a collab where everyone could only use ONE colour (for example... dark blue to light blue).. that went quite well i thought... unless you where thinking of still images?... have a strong theme linking them together.. or get inspired from the COW threads... they have lots of ideas knocking around inside them...

First of i know this is a Doulbe post (with a 2 hour break) but il thought il raise the art portal discusion back up again... *ahem*

i was in the art portal as i normaly am these days when.... THIS! showed up on the first page... thinking i was in the unscouted art area i reclicked the art tab on the main toolbar... and then i found out it was scouted... i then took the liberity of looking at this persons scouts... and to my horror if this user is removed / unscouted... so will 191 other users... O.O

Anyways, thats actually really good, since it isn't too far away, maybe we can set up something at the beginning of August. Absolutely, after all, it is everything, by everyone. That's why I think it shouldn't be limited to 1 theme, though, because I guess some people might have other kind of plans in their mind for that, I'd suggest a rather OPEN theme (you know, let people express their birthday tributes in a way THEY want), but we still should use a catch...

Or two.

I need to bust my ass to get scouted again! But I havent been in a drawing mood. Which means im not submitting anything :I

you don't have to "bust your ass" to get scouted. It's not about how much work you've got submitted to the portal (as long as it's at least 4) but what kind of quality it is. Say you have to make a portfolio with 5-10 works of art. Do you cram in 10 images that are mediocre or do you show only your best work?
