I'm just wondering, how many people in the forum have read the Watchmen.

Seeing the film does DEFINITELY not count. In fact if you saw the film you might have to read it again to repair the damage.

when was the manga published exactly...
I'm surprised a famous animal Icon such as lassie from the fifties or 60s can have that much of a lasting impression.

I don't know when the manga was published, all I know is that I have come across something rather awesome....

I should read it o.0.....

Well with lassie having TV shows, books, movies, toys and more, I'm not that surprised of the lasting impression
Wiki in case any one is interested

Lassie: skateboard stunt and danger zone?..... this dog has lived a fuller like than one would expect o.0....

So, I noticed this isn't the first mention of The Watchmen comic you've made 'round these parts, you must be a fan.

I've read about half of the comic and now the compilation sits on my bookshelf gathering dust, the other half is on my to-do list along with quite a few other unfinished books, graphic novels and manga, there just aren't enough hours in the day anymore, nor enough gas in the tank at the end of the day...

I've not seen the movie.

I saw the movie, and I didn't think it was that bad, Sure it wasn't as good as the comic book, but that always happens with a transition to film.
I'm actually trying to get a copy of the motion copy. 12 parts, 6 hours XD

I'm not surprised that such a thing exists as I am that it ended up on a major site like that. That would imply it has some kind of a fanbase. And that someone thought the idea of a Lassie manga was good enough for publication in the first place. I've not read it, but that a publisher even considered it is strange.
Cult hit with nostalgic older readers, perhaps?

Yeah, i'm a pretty big fan of Alan Moore in general. I've read the Watchmen, From Hell, Parts 1 & 2 of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Another Suburban Romance.

My love affair with the Watchmen was late blooming.
Initially I saw the book in my local library and it had really interesting cover art so I was quite curious, I saw it was quite highly critiqued so I decided to check it out, completely unaware of it's cult status.
At the time I was also reading Transmetropolitan, and in a certain issue, I forget which one, there's a big reference to the Watchmen.
This made me sort of curious, so I googled it and was amazed at the amount of Watchmen appreciation clubs etc. I also noticed that there was a lecture coming up in a few weeks time a local venue, so I bought tickets for me and one of my "nerd" friends to go.
The lecture blew my mind. The amount of symbolism, references, and sheer genius that I was completely unaware of was just mind boggling. So I promptly re-read the book and fell in love. Since then i've read it another few times

I would highly recommend it to anyone

That's not really a bad thing, they cut out a lot of the interesting parts. They also completely fucked up the ending. The movie itself is alright and decent, but the last half hour of the movie is complete garbage.

I'd just like to say that I think the Art forum is improving.

About a week or so ago, I posted few responses in this thread regarding the activity of the forum, saying that I think it could be improved greatly.
It's been a little while now, and I for one have been much busier amongst the community here, and I think some others have also. I might just be because i'm posting in more threads etc. but it seems to me like the forum has gotten better.
I think that we've made good progress.

This little slice of the internets growing on me. I've only been here a little while but I already feel quite at home on this forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome people :D

Actually, I don't think you have been around the art forum long enough to see how we act over long periods of time.

we have our slumps and at times we are more helpful than others

vero's blow up the other night is a perfect example.

I feel another slump not too far off in the future, but even then, we are still somewhat helpful, we'll just put up with less shit from non-regular users

Yeah I agree with you there, and theres no certainty that it will stay like this. But I do think it's improved quite a bit over the past week or so. I don't really have much experience to compare it to though.
Everyone just seems a bit, jollier?

Although everyone did seem to take considerable pleasure in tearing chunks out of yesterdays "abstract" artist, myself included :P

I will admit that the Forum has bee a little bit more lively this past week or twom but as I said, it's ups and downs...

thing is we get lots and I do mean lots of instances of threads like that one. We also get alot of pompus users who draws stick figures and thinks there the next da vinci, and it does get old. For the most part we try tolerate them and shoo the out the door, but sometimes they push all the wrong buttons and we snap and take a few of them down.
Trust me you'll come across a user that pushes you in the wrong way and you'll aim for the head and pull the trigger. We all do it, it''s just a matter of lowering the times we do so.

watershake just remember every so often there is a thread that will stand out and we as the art forum community will band together and rip it to shreds, abstract art was one, when mabelmas thread had that incident also, and basically any arrogant ms paint noobs

Hello, I'm new to newgrounds and hope to stick around, you got a great place here especially with the html embeds.
Only thing I'd love to see here is the option to add png file extensions, even replacing jpegs with them as they are smaller files and don't change the appearance of our work.
