estimate on when this project will be started up, it sounds good but you need to make sure the writers know about it too

Personally I'm thinking the upcoming weekend, first week of '10. Nice kick-off for the new year and I'd like some time to fine-tune my personal submission to get the ball rolling and act as an example.
First round-up and update the wednesday after that.

On an unrelated note I just saw Avatar.

Jesus Fucking Christ, these are THE best visual effects to date. It completely blows everything out of the water.
I'm not even talking about how an explosion casts realistic flashes of light on an infinitely complex canyon, or how every gunshell is cast off in a completely different manner.

I'm talking about the way fingers apply pressure to skin and the skin reacts as it actually would, nosearches flare up, lips tremble with slight cracks showing, feet planted are in the mud and the mud gets between the toenails, light falls and is dimmed through countless of leaves, slightly more opaque where the veins are.

I fucking loved it. Not because it's the most original, because it isn't, though still very good. But it pushes the envelope. No compromises were made, no shortcuts were taken, it HAD to be this good and it is. This is the most important film on a technical front since... Jurassic Park.
But it doesn't overshadow everything else, it's not a stupid eyecandy fest which only looks good. It has a solid base to work from, but is made believable by the outstanding, absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking visual effects.

The fact that 3D is actually used to enhance the film rather than being a gimmick to draw crowds in makes it all the better.

If you want the see what's possible to create now, the absolute pinnacle, see Avatar.

Special effects were bananas, the story was fucking stupid and cheesy, and how the native people were depicted I thought was mildly racist.

Am I the only one who thinks this whole movie was just a rip on The Smurfs?

gargomel = the general, natives = smurfs, and there even was an evil giant black cat!

It's an outstanding technical achievement and my hat's off to all the artists who worked countless hours modelling each individual plant, cleaning up and applying the thousands mo-cap animations, blending the millions of effects seamlessly into the rest of the film...

Few films have transported me to another world and even then my suspension of disbelief had to work overtime, but this... Damn.
It's a Dances with Wolves-esque plot, I'll give you that. What is depicted isn't anything particularly new given that it was conceptualized 15 years ago, but the way it looks, moves, sounds and feels.

This is the new standard and I can't wait to see what this tech can do in the hands of other directors,
Spielberg, Jackson and the like.

I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone would agree with you though :P

and trust me it's not because I think it'll be bad or anything, as a matter of fact I expect it to be quite good. But I will wait until it is released on DVD before I even watch it. Now I know I'm having the flame cannons targeted on me right now, but it's worth it.
See I don't want to see the Movie while it is in theaters mostly due to principle. And more specifically the cost and time it took to make the movie (Half a Billion Dollars, come on guys!) that kind of money is a joke, there is no reason for a movie that is majority 3D to cost that damn much, and the production, didn't they say something like 10 years production? In my opinion, some one got stupid and someone else got damn rich off the first person's stupidity.

Ok I admit, production cost of movies are bound to go up, I understand that.
inflation and better visual effects are proof enough, and I'm sure that on day 500 million will be considered a low budget production cost, but today, it is still way too much.

I know my lack of buying a ticket and checking it out, won't affect anything or the box office totals,
But in the end I can know I have peace of mind

So in Recap,
Do I want to see it?Yes
Will I see it? In time
Do I think it will be good? Probably, that money had to go some where.
Do I think the 3D will be good?Oh most likely, but I still feel that it is something that could have been accomplished for less money

.....oops, didn't really man to rant right there, but... sure....

besides I'm too broke to go see it anyway

Maybe you're too young to remember this but sometime in the mid 90's there was a little movie called Waterworld produced. It was the most expensive movie to produce of all time when it was made, the cost was estimated around $175 million (which today is decently reasonable for a big budget action flick). It bombed, big time. It was indeed a terrible film. Cash used =/= quality production, not by a mile.

I'd go see it in theaters, IMAX 3D if it's available. The 3D makes the movie, without the 3D it loses a lot of it's allure. Special effects is the only thing that it has going for it, so if you want to get the full effect just go see it in theaters.

I did see it in IMAX 3d, me and my friend drove 30 Miles to our nearest imax, to find it sold out at the time i wanted to go(2:30) , along with the next time sold out, so we bought tickets for the 10:10 showing. I do agree, story was a little cheezy , was kinda long yet worth it, but I thought the visuals were awesome.

ok Yeah I admit, Waterworld did bomb, (Not too young, it just slipped my mind)
And you are right, throwing money at a movie doesn't make it good, I guess I should have chosen a better remark than that one :P
Admittingly, a lot of people I know are saying it's good, (I had this same discussion with them the other night, with out the Waterworld part)

I'm probably going to tear the movie in to peices anyway over the technical aspects, it's better to do it at home where I can bitch at the Tv as much as I want instead of getting thrown out of the theater
:P
Watching it in an Imax would probably jut make certain flaws probably more noticeable.

Mocap, your kidding right, remember the 3D Beowulf, yeah great example of Mocap goin wrong, very wrong. I don't trust Mocap.

It's something that is POSSIBLE even PROBABLE in time, but is not a feature that's been implemented as of now.

Oh and just one more thing, I already made a thread show casing some of my work, would it be ok to make another to show more? The original only pertained to more abstract works...

IMO, that was an open thread, for anyone to post in, so I'd say it's okay.

mods may say otherwise, but I'm not sure

I am not asking to be scouted but... Is there a way to get more attention or something so people DO look at my art? I was thinking of advertising on the front page but I don't know what to say because If I simply say "Hey scout me PLZ!" would not work. Any ideas?

Tit's as the images thumbnail works wonders, however if those tits aren't drawn well, people will usually troll you or something.

You could link your art in your sig, there's no harm in that.
Or you could post subtle blog posts - "Uploaded some new art", "Rate my pics", etc.

I think your pics are cutesy, but are a bit rough, and could do with bit more care and attention.

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but work hard at making the best art you can and don't worry so much about being scouted. When you're art is at the right level people (who are always browsing the "unscouted" section) will find it and scout you. =]

Ughh... I don't like to draw dirty things and I think it is wrong to only be scouted just because there is some geeks who want to see tits so no.
