Here.

Controls

UP - Jump
LEFT/RIGHT - Move. (Only use them while on a planet as at the moment they don't quite work right)

Idea

Basically i'm going to make more planets etc and there's going to be something you have to get to by jumping from planet to planet. What do you think? What else can I add?
Feedback?

Thanks,
UnknownFury

It's a nice engine but it feels a little weird. When you're at the top of a planet and jump you will be pulled slightly in the direction of the other planet.
Perhaps you should make the gravitational pull only affect the user if they're relatively close to the planet (the distance would have vary depending on the size, and thus strength of the planet's gravitional pull)..
Having all the planets affect you regardless of how close you are would make movement very cumbersome when there are a multitude of planets on screen.

But that's just me.
Nice work though. I was thinking of making something like this after playing Super Mario Galaxy but decided not to because it would be a rather daunting task.

Sorted. Now it only works if you're a certain distance away from the planet. I've drawn the distances on the file for now for clear illustration.

i dont think it should work like that, but rather you are simply attracted to the closest object, otherwise if you couldnt bounce off walls it would be far far too easy to escape the ground completely

as a side note i experimented with this idea a month or so ago with my physics engine having a soft body that you could jump between planetoids with a bunch of rigid body objects you could push around and get to switch planet aswell :P

Opps. Wrong swf. In the newer one you can't jump off of the planet as the jump doesn't quite go far enough. Also planets are closer together to adapt to this.

Sounds awesome ^^

I really like where this is going!
i think this could make a great game!
my only gripe is that the gravity doesn't pull you much... like when i jump off i just fly off, like the gravity went away...
you know?

It's a nice engine. But what kind of game can you make out of that? You would just have to jump at a correct position? Where's the challenge.

Have shit flying through the air that hurts/kills you if you touch it.
Moving planets that if you miss jumping onto you die.
Shifting planet sizes with the same effect.
Monster things wandering around.

Use your imagination.

Also the walls aren't going to be 'bouncy' in final thing. So miss a planet then you'll get lost in space :)
Also i'm going to add planets like mini-suns. Touch them, or get to close, and get burnt to shreads :P

I'm going to post an update shortly. At the moment i'm doing some graphics for it in photoshop. Done the background, just about to start the planets.

Wow. Thats weird. Never played that game before - Its not really going to be like that - not 'golf' type thing or anything.

Also, seeing as i'm struggling with the planets i'll post the graphics so far.
Background done in photoshop.

UPDATE.

nicely done :)

will smaller plannets have difirent gravity?

how do u mean struggeling with the planets?

i think u should like give them a collor keep the black outline and use shadow working to create craters and bumbs and stuff? just tossing ideas :p

Yes, i'm probably going to try and do some planets orbiting around others.

Strugling as in with the graphics. Hows this?

looks okey. did u make it your self or is it mars?

i don't know if it is just for the color but using more structures then one might be better,

and the revolving planet thing sounds interesting :)

Its mars. It kept going wrong but i'm going to try some more planets soon. I did the black hole it just won't let me give it a transparent background.

maybe saving it as gif or png in photoshop?

or u should bitmap-trace it and then delete the background.

Yeah thats what i'm doing but 'cause the image kind of fades out it doesn't quite work when you save it as a png/gif.

I think the bitmap trace graphics look awesome. What are you planning to do with the actual charachter?

That was what i was unsure of myself. I asked my friend if he had any ideas and he said he didn't. I think i might just make it a metalic/shiney ball or something.

When in the air, you navigate perpendicular to the surface of the planet you were last on =O

decent concept though.

I was just thinking it looked like the game 'Gravitee', but someone already pointed it out and I guess you're not making a golf-game ;P.

Great job on the engine so far, keep it up :D!

Yeah - i think i said in one of my posts that movement in air is a bit messed up. Going to sort it out :)

Well not saying this can be considered an actual engine, it really has potential! And for the possibilities on the types of games that might come out of this its ingenious. Though, I probably see a flash version of Mario galaxy coming from a scipt like this. Good job, and I hope I can play a game that involves this "engine"! Cheers!

someone walking and jumping is considered a engine so this is surely a engine, i'm pretty sure we aren't seeing all of it yet because it is still in prototype fase,

i was thinking when u were working on the planetes tht the little ball could maybe be a asteroid... but it would be kinda weird to have a asteroid hopping from planet to planet.
so a asteroid, a ufo, a astranaut :), or just a metal ball ... i can't really think of anything htat makes whole lot of sense so anything will do i geuss
