So I got Crysis on Wednesday and 1GB of RAM.
I thought I had no chance is playing this but I could. In order for me to play with as less lag as possible I had to put it down to the lowest graphic settings and absolutely no programs whilst playing it, such as a browser.
Amazingly the graphics still look great and lag is non existent. So I wondered about the people who had to purchase expensive PCs just to get in the same league as me.
Now my computer was tailor made gift, therefore free. But lets say I bought all the parts myself.
Here are the stats.
Motherboard is standard decent one.
80GB Hard Drive
2.6 Intel processor pen 4
1GB RAM stick DRR 3200
512MB RAM stick DRR 3200
Windows XP Home Edition Operating system (however that is software so I only included it to show if it can run Crysis)
RADEON X1600 Pro DDR2 AGP slot 256MB Graphics Card
Other things like the DVD drive I have no idea about, it is recommended I get 8X Speed though.
Over the years this computer has been modified to the stats above. The majority of hardware is recommended by my uncle who can get the cheapest, decent and reliable all in one.
The prices of the hardware below are just rounded up guesses on what I was told the prices were.
Motherboard: £40
80GB HDD: £40
Processor: £30
1GB RAM: £35
512MB RAM: £15
Graphics Card: £90 (what I paid for when I first bought, probably cheaper now)
Total: £250.
Extras such as peripherals and a PC case will add to those costs. Chances are you already had some of those things before.
If you had no computer at all then of course it would cost over a grand to play Crysis. There are too many peripherals to even add up the costs of a PC with everything.
But if you want to get the cheapest possible way to get a powerful computer from scratch but no bothered about the extra labour of setting it up. Go for the buying individual parts and build it yourself. will cost under £700 if you have a good knowledge on what to buy.
If you haven't got the skill of building a computer and just want it premade then it would cost way more. I've seen computers go for $4000 and you could build one equal or better for a fraction of that price. The good news for pre made computers is that YOU cannot fuck it up if you decide to build it.
Don't take my word for it, it takes less effort going to a computer store and buying a complete desktop PC which would suit the requirements of Crysis. Trying to find good parts that are also cheap is time consuming as you have to ask opinions of others to see if Company A is better than Company B.
The specifications of my computer allow me to PLAY it rather than just RUN it but on the lowest settings. I once changed the game resolution from default 800x600 to 1024x748 and gameplay was jerky. It may of been if I had a program in the background but I cannot remember.
But if you want to play Crysis and can't afford an Alienware computer but can build a computer, go for building it.

Even if you can't build a PC, you can certainly get someone to build it for you. This summer I paid ~£790 at this website and got a custom built PC delivered to my door, that runs Crysis on full graphics. Certainly, things like Alienware are overhyped, overpriced, and overrated.

I can play Crysis on mediumish settings with the following specs:
3.66 GHZ Pentium 4.
2GB of Ram
Two Radeon X1600 Pro with a total of 512mb of graphics memory.
It was made by my Dad when I was younger.

I spent $700 on this computer and I can run anything without lag, unless I have torrents open. I built it myself too, and love it.
Anyone who gets manipulated into buying a generic one at a store should research first.

Hm I'm pretty skeptical of the processor and graphics card but I can believe it. Have you played through the whole game though? Because some bits, like the final battle were making my 8600gt and core two duo lag like a dick. That was on high settings though.
There is nothing you can name that is more delicious and awesome than Subway.
I run on Mountain Dew.

I have a Geforce 8800GTX 768MB GPU, core 2 duo overclocked to 3ghz per processor and 2gb corsair performance ram and I can run the game on max settings, but not on a really high Anti Aliasing setting. I think its feasible for a computer to be able to run the game for that kind of price, but you need to spend a HELL of a lot to play it on the actual max settings, I dont think it would even be possible to own a machine that can support it on full settings with full AA and such.

Forgot to add I built my computer for $1200NZD, which is roughly £460.
I had the biggest feeling of self-satisfaction when I saw a computer in a store with lower specs for about $2200.
