You got that quite backwards, Green day's old music is mainly popular with old people and the newest music is mainly popular with 6th graders.
MCR is one of the more popular bands out there. Hell, they were voted the band that "songs connect the most with listeners." by several magazines.

They're both good bands, but as has been said, they are too different to really compare. But I'm sure we can all agree that they are both better than Avenged Sevenfold.
