The name "Gman" started as Black-ghetto slang for FBI agents.... It's short for "government man."
So really, it's got absolutely no bearing on Gordon Freeman's name whatsoever...

Really, I think that the Gman is the ultimate Enigma Code. (Forgive the technical term... It basically means that the mystery of the Gman will keep you coming back to replay the games, hoping to catch little details that might give away his identity, all the while, playing more HL games, in the hopes that he will eventually be unmasked....

Until the release of Halflife 2, many fans speculated that Gman was in fact the administrator of the Black Mesa institute, but HL2 explains that the administrator was in fact Doctor Breen.
However, it is known that he supplied the crystal sample that caused the resonance cascade at Black Mesa, which essentially started all this.... Keffuffle.

Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Personally, I don't think the Gman is human.... But I guess I'm not alone in that.

It's possible. I can't even ponder the possibilities, the story is way too complex for my simple mind.
