Actually alberta opposed the removal of the death penalty in the 70's and was why it took so long to abolish it in 1999. Nope, our very existence is a conglomerate of several European, Asian, African, Latin-American influences, among others.

The British heritage is basically only in the first 13 colonies of a country that is today about 20 times larger, made up of what were formerly French, German, Spanish, Dutch colonies... and that are now states or swathes of land inhabited by Americans whose ancestors come from all over.

Most historians will say that American society and culture owes far more to Germany and France than to the British Empire.

Let's hope we get the chance to study this interesting phenomenon again.
