If you want just make animations, you only need to know how to use computers to learn it.

If you want to code actionscript, you need a fair programming logic. Flash is not very good at learning it, as the code is not too structured (it get scattered through many files, objects, layers, frames, scenes, etc...)

I personally learned programming in Basic (the old Basic, not visual basic) But academically it is generally considered Pascal as the best language to start learn programming. Today people learn more in Delphi or Visual Basic.

Anyway, just try to code something fancy in AS if you like to code. If you don't, you must content on making animations.

I would not recomend any "programs" but I can recommend you read as many books on the subject as possible. If you are a complete noob (or just want to learn flash fast), buy a dummies guide to flash.

For actionscript...books can get a bit more complex...get a actionscript "essentials" book- wading through one of the "complete guide" massive tomes is a waste of time.

For artwork- start out by simply sketching characters/objects on paper, then scanning them. Import these scans to flash and trace the lines with the bezier tool...(or the line tool). After a while you'll get good at it and you won't need to scan- youll simply draw directly to flash.

Learning flash takes a good few months...but it isn't THAT hard to acheive...

If you like, or dislike my comments, or submissions on this site...write about it in my forum/feedback page

When i saw all those layers and frames and action panel i saw the light. I realised how the system works. Then i opened up MAX3d and made World Of Warcraft. I sold it to Blizzard.

lol at those last few posts anyways.

To make some animations, if you ever drew a sticky note pad animation, and fliped it, thats how flash works, but alot better, you can so much on the internet, such as stuff to be better at using the program flash, better animation techniques. Practice
