...parents.
Well, Newgrounds, have you ever played music for your parents/ other family?
I recently played some Rammstein, Audioslave, NIN, RATM, System of a Down, Incubus, Bloc party, Buckethead, and some Daft punk for my Mom.

Also, I want to know what they thought about the songs/ bands.
Examples: My mom thought Audioslave were beautiful, she thought Rammstein sounded like a car wreck.
Bloc party was too depressing.
System of down was too fast.
Incubus was good.
Daft punk sounded like robots.

Also, I am seriously thinking of playing some Slipknot, just to scare her...
Should I do it?

Sure. I have a pretty varied taste in music and so do they, and I know what genres they like too.

Should I do it?

Haha, sure, who knows, maybe she'll even like it :P
Even better, try Belphegor, satanistic death metal.

I'm curious, and this is how I want to find out.

Haha, sure, who knows, maybe she'll even like it :P

She's a conservative Catholic, so I don't think so.
Perhaps I will start her on Vermillion, part 2.

She MAY like that.

Even better, try Belphegor, satanistic death metal.

HAHAHA, I'm not quite ballsy enough to do that.

Thanks for the idea, however...

I've played lots of music for my mom, and it was odd when I got her into Mindless Self Indulgence. I don't think she's trying to relate to me, seeing as how that would be very unlike her.

I've played Elliott Smith for her, but she just said it was too "soft" for her.

Tried some Siouxsie and The Banshees, she only liked two songs, Peek-A-Boo and Carousel. Both songs are near polar opposites.

Then there was Mr. Bungle... yeah.

Well, I have a taste somewhat like my dad's, classic rock and whatnot, but he heard Cannibal Corpse and grounded me. As for my mom, just crappy pop music. I keep my music taste to myself, really.

The first time I showed my mum the kind of music I listening to, namely Death/Black Metal, she didn't really get freaked out.

But the heavier stuff like Belphegor, she can't stand it when I have it loud enough for her to hear.

This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

Lucky you, you have a mom who likes industrial.
Excellent.

Huh, suprising.

Ain't heard of them, sorry...

HAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHHHHHHHHH.
Oh God, that's funnier than me playing Slipknot for my mom!

Yeah, my mom always wants to play duets every time I come over. When relatives and elderly people come to visit she makes my sibs and I get out all of our instruments and entertain them with an old fashion sing-along.

No, she'll probably disown you for liking such terrible music.

I used to try to get other people to listen to the music I was listening to a little while back, when I was all high on music.

Then I later discovered that almost nobody I know likes the kind of music that I do, so I gave up, and now keep music mostly to myself.

Heh, she didn't disown me.
All she said was that 'You call THAT music? Sounds like hooligans on crack'
Then my dad heard it and said 'WHAT the FUCK is that Shit?'

My mom listens to rap and my dad likes shitty "rock", J-pop, and Eurobeat.

In other words, they're both lost causes.

I've only done it with Gorillaz and Daft Punk.

They liked Gorillaz, and they liked the Daft Punk songs I played for them, most especially Aerodynamic (my dad) and Digital Love (my mom).

On that note, did you know that Daft Punk is enjoyed by virtually everyone who's heard their music? 98% of all people who have heard Daft Punk's songs like them.

I showed my mom Muse and Radiohead and she actually liked it. Which is weird, because she likes Country, Easy Listening, etc.

My dad doesn't even give my music a chance though

I've tried showing my mom the most "brutal" death metal I could find, and she said the vocalist sounded like a toilet flushing.

Never really played music for anyone, but if I did probably would just be something a lil easy like "I love rock and roll" or "hair of the dog", on guitar.

My mom hates all my music. The sad thing is I listen to pretty normal music, no screamo/emo shit. I hardly even listen to any hard rock, and only like one metal band, but even then it's debatable over whether the band is truly metal or not.

I haven't played it for them persay, I've played a great many cds with them in the car though. They just stopped objecting after a little while. I'm suprised they never put up a fuss over songs like Heroine (Velvet Underground) and the like.

What 'metal' band?
Also, perhaps you are not being hardcore enough for her.
How do you define 'normal'?
