Yeah, apparently Valve screwed up and didn't include it in the Festive crates properly, as well as not having it drop or on the crafting possibilities for a while, so there's not as many out there as there should be.

I don't know what you mean about the recipe being hard to find though... 3 refined, or 4 refined + Pyro token, and then you've got a small chance at getting it.

Why do I have this funny feeling that there'll eventually be a way to craft unusual hats?

At 1/5/11 01:25 AM, FurryDemon wrote: Not much, I can't even get a good offer for the vintage version so I'd just wait for awhile until all the collectors/hoarders/completionists start giving insane offers for it.

Exactly. The value of the Sam & Max items are going up and up and I imagine it'll only get worse. Hell, I've seen people spending over $100 for Max's Severed Head. I'm just glad I got mine during the offer for The Devil's Playhouse, a game I eventually went over and enjoyed a lot.

I would like a crafting system where you spend 5 refineds for a random particle token and if you craft this with your hat you make it unusual with the particle the token will have :D

Also tell me. Now new hats and new weapons are worth MORE or LESS since Festive Crates expired?

Maybe.
Maybe Unusual Metal will become obtainable in some way, or there will simply be a (very) small chance of crafting an unusual hatte by combining two hats...which will make things very interesting since everyone will go crazy for shitty nonvintage hats.

Also, remember that Tf2 weapons site?
Well, now the stats are updated with all the new weapons.
http://tf2stats.net/weapons/
It's funny to see that most of the time the majority of players will still use the basic weapon.
And the percentage of CaD spies is frightening :<

I love this idea. Sure, five refined metals is a lot but it's rather easy to get that much via trading.

I don't think the weapons are worth that much but I'm sure there'll be more demand for the hats.

Also I traded the Madame Dixie hat for the Buckaroo hat. They both mean the same to me so I just did the trade for the lolz. Here is a picture of it.

Frankly, five refined metals isn't much at all.
I just got 5 for 6.50$ (planning on selling it for slightly more, of course)...considering that even the cheapest unusual goes for at least 20, -5 or 6 hats, that is- doing that will make unusuals more than common- it will make them standard-issue.
Just imagine how a regular match would be if everyone wore shiny things with confettis, flames and auras on their heads.

It'll come to that point. There was a time when one would have thought "Imagine a regular match where everyone in the server had a hat." In addition to the possibility of refining unusuals (whether it be unusual hats or an unusual token), I wouldn't be surprised if there'll be promo unusuals sometime in the future. Yeah, we'll all have unusuals eventually and not be so excited whenever we get one. Another thing that won't surprise me is Valve coming up with another cosmetic gimmick for TF2.

Someone offered me a Larikin Robin + a Refined, + a Lime and a Salmon paint for my lv90 Blutsauger.
He also offered some other lone Vintage hats I wasn't interested in them. I was halfway to accept the first offer he did but I said, wait how many people can have a lv90 Blutsauger and how many people may have the rest of these items. So I declined because I loved this very old lv90 Blutsauger.

Also I was thinking, what will be the next thing VALVe do to make people go crazy for? Perhaps uhh ultra rare "aesthetic" accesories for hats like ribons or flowers or well something random?

Mmh..well, it's true, but I'm not too sure about the excitement part.
I never got hats before trading, and yet I was pretty damn excited when I got my first ones.
Of course the same doesn't go for unusuals in my case because I don't like them, but that is merely a matter of taste.

Oh god, please tell me you're joking....
Vintage levelled weapons aren't THAT rare.
The most you can normally get is 1 refined...and you turned down this? What's this obsession you have with keeping your stuff?
Sorry, but that's just dumb.

How many people have the Larikin Robin hat? Could they be uhh more than a thousand surely.
How many people can have refined metal or useless paints? MANY MANY MANY can have them.

How many people have a lv90 Blutsauger exactly lv90 and exactly a Blutsauger?
When the Blutsauger was dropping before they fix that lv thingie anyone had a chance to find a random leveled weapon and from these Blutsaugers that dropped most of them had the standard level and EVEN then how many had EXACTLY level90?
I still think I did the right thing.

Unless that level means anything to you, you should have sold it.
You could have bought tons of vintage blutsaugers for the price he was offering.

Are any one of you interested in a lumbricus lid or a christmas tree? I got 2 extra that I want to sell.

Oh wow, you asked the UKCS guys?
They sure know about trading, amirite?
You said it yourself that you can find incredible deals on their servers because they have no idea..

How many people have the Larikin Robin hat? Could they be uhh more than a thousand surely.

No.Not even close.

How many people can have refined metal or useless paints? MANY MANY MANY can have them.

Yeah well you can get a decent hat for a refined, so the "many people have them" argument is kinda weak...especially since you told me you collected mostly hats.

How many people have a lv90 Blutsauger exactly lv90 and exactly a Blutsauger?

So what?Is 90 your lucky number or something?
In TF2 the number of items is not directly proportional to their value...
You may very well have the only LV1 vintage beanie in the game, and it's definitely rarer than any unusual, but I don't see it being traded for a Max Set anytime soon, knowhatamsayin?

I still think I did the right thing.

Well then, I still think you're stupid for not doing it :/
If you find that guy again tell him to talk to me..unless of course he wanted exactly a blut and exactly at level 90.

I can understand that but if someone offered good hats for my level 97 Dead Ringer, I wouldn't decline. Not only would I be trading my old Dead Ringer which I can easily replace, it's also one less vintage weapon owned, thus giving me a good opportunity to rename a non-vintage Dead Ringer without fear of trading it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll admit that there'll be good matches for unusual effects but for the most part they stick out like a sore thumb. I'm still wondering why Valve implemented an effect that shows fucking flies around a hat.

Apart from Brass Beast they all seem rather easy to get. From the Australian Christmas update, the only weapons I'm missing are Buffalo Steak Sandvich, Warrior's Spirit and Crusader's Crossbow but they're the hardest ones to get.
