If you set up a cannon at the very front of your lines and shoot at somebody with it, that's not defense. It's being set up to help capture an area, not to reinforce it.

That's still defence, you're basically holding a line. The Sentry's primary use is area denial, which, if you're turtling a level 3 sentry, you're doing. This is a defensive playstyle, no matter the position of the sentry. Even placing level 3 sentries in front of the enemy spawn is still defensive engineering, just with a ridiculously good position.

I would class offensive engineering as being the sneaky one who can pop a level 1 or level 2 sentry down in an open area, and then run around with the shotgun, taking down enemies with the rest of the team. You'd most likely assume a similar playstyle to that of the Scout, running around blasting people with your shotgun and dodging as well as you can, but instead of the utility of a Double jump and 133% speed, you have the utility of a level 1 or 2 sentry consistently picking off health in addition to your heckling with the shotty/pistol.

Of course, this is just a personal definition of the term.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Anyway, I'd just like to point out this video, which is a prime example of what I would class as Offensive Engineering.

Have you tried to pay for OWNING a server? If you do it at least for a month or 2 I bet you will get enough donors to keep it up(And if they like it). If you manage to get over with this new map, send us the IP and we will gladly test it and provide some feedback :)

Don't you have to use the Team Fortress 2 Dedicated server thingy or something to make a server other people can play on? I have no idea of how you make servers though...

There are many different ways to buy TF2. Your best bet is to get it on PC, as it comes with several updates and overall better support by VALVe, the makers of the game. If you want to have it on Xbox/PS3, then you can buy it from stores, however, keep in mind that there are several updates missing from the Xbox/PS3 versions.

If you want it on PC, you can buy it through Steam or buy it from retailers. You can buy it on Steam for $20, or you can buy it with the Orange Box for $30 which comes with 4 other fantastic games. Buying games through Steam is a much cheaper option than buying the boxed version from stores.

I hope this has helped you.

Had an awesome run today as Battle Engineer and Dead Ringer Spy.

I decided to try Battle Engie ever since I saw that video that Paradox put up yesterday, I had a lot of fun. I placed sentries in unusual spots then instantly moved away to help the others attack. Placing one right at the start of the round in the main room in Turbine proved to be very effective. I also placed Dispensers wherever my teammates were holding off the other team, it helped quite a lot. My main aim was to be as spontaneous and offensive as possible, and as a personal critic, I didn't do too bad for a first try. Of course, after this method began to work, half of our team went Engineer and held them off in the middle room, which totally threw off my buzz, it was for that reason as to why I then played as a Dead Ringer Spy.

The Dead Ringer is now officially my secret weapon for kicking ass in TF2. I've learned on the best times to feign death, and used that to my advantage. A protip: The best time to DR is when you're being attacked by a soldier/demo. The gib explosion death convinces them so well that you've been finished off. I also improved on learning on how to walk INTO rockets, stickies, and huntsman arrows. I got several combo stabs in, and in the end I added another 50 points to my score.

TL:DR - I was credit to team and here's my final score.

I'm not that good of a Pyro but I've recently switched to the Flare Gun due to some PropHunt games no longer allowing the Shotgun as well as using it to shoot enemies from a distance. For example, I see a Heavy on the other side of the 2fort battlement but the Shotgun doesn't seem to do much good there so I'll use the Flare Gun instead and shoot him. We all know a Pyro running into a Heavy is one of the most foolish things to do in TF2 so Flare Gun is a nice alternative. I'll see how I go with Pyro sometime next week.

God that guy must be an annoying asshat to play against...all these things are really flashy, and they certainly piss off the enemy (lol @ reverse Jarate kill), but they don't really help your team...frankly, the Pyro doesn't help the team as much as most other classes recently thanks to the rampant airblast spam and people trying to reflect everything (this guy at least knows how to do it properly)...again, not the class' fault, but the players'...
On a side note, it's been a really long time since I last tried to use the Flare Gun, and since now I swithced back to the Axe because I smelted my Axtinguisher (so now I have at least one good weapon for Pyro vs Pyro) I might give it a try...

Heh heh, I have the most peculiar Pyro loadout imaginable: flamethrower, flare, and Homewrecker.

Yeah, it's gear fit for being useless and annoying. Fuck being proper credit to team.

I've been using since the buffs. Flame, and a crit/mini crit flare go a Loooooong way with no health/water around, Better finisher than the shotgun imo, if you can aim it. That is a really good Pyro.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

Definitely useful for taking down Heavies from a distance, etc.

As that video showed, if you know the exact trajectory, even against Scouts it is.

I'm the opposite. I find the shotgun a lot more useful than the flare gun. Sure, in some situations it's ok, but shooting people from a great distance with the flare gun doesn't do much, as they have a chance to run away and get healed before they burn to death.

I use the shotgun after airblasting people. It's a very effective weapon and it's highly underrated.

I used to only use the shotty, but after the buffs, it's hard to turn down 90 damage + afterburn on a crit flare.

I do miss having a hitscan weapon though, especially against enemy Pyros.

Whish is precisely the reason why I am sticking with the regular shotgun.

Basically, I use flamethrower and axetinguisher, yet I was the one supporting the flare gun a really long time, when it had only 15 damage. Its really precious for taking down many things. A wise heavy, will retreat after 3 flare , he will be around 130 health. As for sniper snipers it does a great work because the afterburn doesn't let them focus on their scope properly.

Yeah, there is no better weapon than the shottie for taking down enemy Pyros, but the axe will do nicely too, since most of them just expect you to use your flamer..

AI love any class that has a weapon with a projectile trajectory. They're just so much more fun to predict with and fire with than boring, straightforward projectiles. Maybe that's why I don't like Soldier so much.

All I can say about shotgun Pyros is... YOU'RE NO FUN!

Also, I found the Scottsman's SkullCutter today, which was a nice suprise...

I don't really have an opinion on it yet because I haven't used it much, but Soldier speed makes me sad...

Technically you're actually slower than a soldier - TF2 wiki says you move at 79% speed. Soldier is 80%.

The more you know.

About the demo, I think the best loadout is the normal one.

The SR is only for traps which most of the times get predicted or airblasted by players plus you must be there all the times.

The nade launcher is regular of course. Now the Bottle, has an excessive amount of high crit ratio. The eylander has no such a thing and the bottle can be a powerful ally(yeah HeavyTank, remember when you crafted your axe and we fought and my bottle(pain train that time) beat you twice?)

The targe n slash tactic has reason but you have a high risk of failing your target or just getting too deep into enemy territory without escaping.

The targe n chop tactic is completely useless because, well the targe helps the demo get kills with the fail-o-lander to get speed and hp bonuses BUT the axe doens't offer anything with each kill so if you just want to be an I-rush-al-dat-tiems mellee guy, well it won't help much.

A fertile tactic is the normal loadout but replacing the bottle with the axe because, although the speed it makes you more steady and better to counter close enemies like pyros and spies.

P.S. I do not want to hear any whining about the sticky spam, because whether you like it its a tactic that not only works but wastes your ammo really quick so if you:
1)get killed by it it means you do not know how to walk backwards.
2)whine because you cannot do it learn how, it will improve your demo playing.

A tiny example is that before the normal loadout, I was a demo knight and from the demo-sol update till last christmass I had 200000 blast damage, now I have around 590000.

I don't play pyro all together anymore though, I just can't master the airblast.
Flare gun is a good weapon, but shotgun + airblast is still pretty effective.

That was just the timing of the Targe Charge, it had nothing to do with the weapon..

The targe n slash tactic has reason but you have a high risk of failing your target or just getting too deep into enemy territory without escaping.

True.

Well of course, if you have two explosive weapons instead of one you get more explosive damage..HURR.
