They are helpless at long range, even with the flare gun (dodging flares is really easy), everybody fires on them first when they seem them, they get torn apart by sentries, heavies and soldiers, most of them are W+M1 pyros...so where's the OP part?Seriously! How many good pyros have you ever pet? That are constantly on the first place?Persoanlly, two or three. One of them was named King Pyro :P
And of course there's Don Newman and that other guy, but they aren't simply "good".
The pyro is a very versatile clss and that's why l like it, although l'm not a pyro god myself...
You can do so many tricks with him, combine the airblast with your other weapons, have a completely different approach for every class....why does everybody hate them?

Even worse though is when you're on fire and far away from a health pack, and you see a pyro run past you. On mic, chasing after him, you try to explain that the airblast puts people out, but it's too late, because he already turned the corner into an open field and got his brains blown out.

Although I constantly extinguish people like that, I wouldn't blame somebody for wondering how a release of flammable gas puts out a fire.

But seriously, any server with FF turned off and either a W+M1 pyro or a similarly paranoid pyro means a spy's disguise is useless. A no-afterburn upgrade would be a great idea to counter this now.

Reminds me of Killzone on PS3. When you got to the ranked games where people started unlocking the Saboteur (Spy) then at first you got killed because you thought they were allies. Then everybody got paranoid and started checking almost everyone.

Every now and again you can pull it off, but in the long run, your disguise will fail 9/10 times.
I'm just glad of the dead ringer to sort of make up for it, despite the 300 decibel uncloaking sound.

On a similar note (Upgrades that is) when they come round to doing the demoman; anyone else think his taunt when he raises his "Kilt" should be made a taunt-kill? "Ka-boooom!"
AlmightyFuzz - x) - Some poor sod

And the EMP? If anyone deserves the EMP, the scout does. Make him a little more viable as an assault class. Or at least tweak the scout's BONK! so that turrets don't do knockback...

OH yeah; I LOVE being trapped in the corner by multiple turrets until my invulnerability wears off...

Hm...IMO, the afterburn is really something the pyro needs, so l wouldn't agree with afterburn cancelling..but the suit might reduce damage by 50% and calcel the afterburn's effect (not damage, effect, you know, visual effect) so that you can't see him...dunno.
Also, TSF, you're right, maybe most people hate pyros because they are not team players..kamikazis, more like...and act like assholes.

So he's on fire but not on fire? No, against spies Pyros can definitely take care of themselves, afterburn or no. Against Heavies, yeah the afterburn is a necessity, but against the weaker classes it's hardly necessary. To be honest, I wouldn't mind if it got scaled down overall, and damages based on the class, rather than a fixed amount (like how overheal decays at a different rate depending on class).

Well, it definitely better than a 90% damage shield don't you think? The flamer will be completely ineffective, thus making pyros useless for spy checking, which would be...tragic.
And no, damage based on class is ridiculous...nobody's wearing any armor (except for the demoman) so why the hell should the damage be different?

Well, with the 90% damage shield, he'd still be on fire, so everyone else would gang up on him. With the alternative, he wouldn't catch fire, but would still take normal damage from the flamethrower. You're getting mixed up and combining the two separate attributes into one overpowered weapon.

There doesn't need to be a reason for why the damage should be different, besides in the interests of balancing the effect of afterburn on various classes. To a Heavy, afterburn is a pittance that doesn't mean much, but to a Scout, Medic or Spy, getting to a Medic or medkit fast enough is often the difference between life and death.

Well yes, that's the point of classes! You gotta watch out for different things! If you're a scout you shouldn't be on fire, and if you are, run to the nearest health pack...if the fire does less damage, it would be unfair for the other classes, not to mention the fact that it would be unfair for the pyro..it's so hard to get into flaming distance with scouts, that's why the afterburn is so effective..

What?

If the suit stops 90% fire damage, the Spy will still light up like a Christmas tree when the flamethrower is used. How does this ruin the Pyro's ability to spycheck? The Spy might not take as much damage, but everyone is still alerted that he's a Spy just by the fact that he's on fire.

As for the second version of the suit, the one which only cancels out afterburn effects, then he won't light up, but he will still make that burning sound when the flamethrower goes over him, like what happens when you flame another Pyro. This suit is probably the better of the two, personally, since it will punish careless Pyros that don't pay proper attention when they're spychecking, and spray flame needlessly around.

I'll concede this one though. Though arguably, it isn't that hard to get Scouts, as W+M1 Pyros consistently show.

No, it still sucks...90% damage...the flamer's afterburn deals 5 damage per second..which means 0.something damage with the suit..even if the spy is spotted, he can run away...
