Just had another awesome e-debate game tonight. As usual, i was pyro, in dustbowl stage 1, running around when i noticed some guy from the other team bitching about pyro's being noobs, and being bad players, only running into people, no skill etc. This went on between 2 people, until i jumped in with "Woodworking = skill, videogames is not', then he ended up killing me once, and said 'take that pyro!'.

The others called him an idiot/dickhead/dumb cunt/whatever other word you may have used, i laughed, kept playing. Then i got ubered, went out, destroyed a sentry/engi/dispenser/tele/demo/soldier/
pyro (in that order) and capped the point with my medic, then proceeded to destroy everything else.

I then came back to the dude calling the pyro's 'noob's' and said 'what was that? All pyro's are noobs?'

'Yes' he said, to which another person started getting into him. Shortly after he left.

Most Pyros just run into people.

Mouse 1 + W = Skill.

Good pyros are not afraid to use the other movement keys.

FAIL.TOTAL FAIL.Just read this..

If you're not convinced that the Pyro isn't a skilless overpowered newbie kamikaze class that unbalances the entire game, here's a run through of how any class can kill a newbie Pyro that follows the 'W'+Mouse1 school of assault.

The Scout vs the newbie Pyro
"Where did he - ow!"
Scouts will retreat while blasting you with the scattergun. Two good hits (or one critical) with this thing will take you down, and any good Scout will be able to hit a charging Pyro twice. They are also able to get to a medkit quick enough to stop the burning, even if they do run into the flames.

The Soldier vs the newbie Pyro
"My 'W' key doesn't work!"
Soldiers will rocket the ground beneath you - you'll lose all forward momentum and be sent a few feet up in the air - by the time you land, they'll finish you off. Or they'll just hit you directly, in which case, you're dead. Alternatively, they can rocket-jump and shoot you while you're out of range.

The Pyro vs the newbie Pyro
"Er..."
If you attack an enemy Pyro head-on and they retreat at the right time, their flames will catch you, but yours won't hit them. They'll also shotgun you while you approach.

The Demoman vs the newbie Pyro
"Splortch."
If they haven't blown you up with their stickies, one direct hit from a pipebomb will finish you off, with a nice splattering sound.

The Heavy vs the newbie Pyro
"I'm almost there..."
Minigun, shotgun, fists. Pretty much the only thing they can't kill you with is a sandwich. Just don't get in the line of sight of a Heavy.

The Engineer vs the newbie Pyro
"Hey, you're not supposed to be able to fight back!"
Engineers are like Scouts, but slower. The shotgun can kill you, if they have a good aim and enough distance. Three decent shots is often enough, but two close ones or single crits can sometimes take you out. Oh, and then there's the sentries.

The Medic vs the newbie Pyro
"Just stand still and die!"
Yes, Medics can kill you. They will retreat, firing the syringe gun, and they are faster than you, so long as they don't bump into anything. Most good Medics have the blutsauger, so even if flames are sapping their health, they are getting it back off you each time they hit.

The Sniper vs the newbie Pyro
"Huh?"
Headshot as soon as you turn the corner. Good Snipers can even do it from just outside flamethrower range.

The Spy vs the newbie Pyro
"Caught you - hey!"
Revolver while retreating. Spies are perhaps the least good at this, requiring three hits, or one plus a critical. But it's rare that newbie Pyros charge into a front line populated with Spies.

Dang. No TF2 for me for the next few days...

Got thrown in the "penalty box" here at school. Can't use more than 2GB a day or we will be on the equivalent of dial up for the next 2 days.

Fortunately, I found a work around of sorts. I'm on my laptop now, and it's not in this penalty box. So now I am going to risk getting thrown in it again by continuing to download FarCry 2!

Alternatively (and something I love to do when the chance is available), the soldier runs toward the pyro and nails him with the shovel, using the better close range weapon while the pyro looks around frantially to face him with his flamer.

I did that when I had fought off a mob on Warpath, and a single pyro caught me reloading, so I fixed his little red wagon....with my spade.

I have nothing to say that is at all relevant.

The Pyro is my most played class, i played as the Pyro the first time i jumped on TF2, there is about 10 hours between my next most played class (engi). Im pretty confident i can use the Pyro properly, rather then this Mouse 1 +W bullshit.

Pyro was only good once they released the update for it and also took off the extra health for backburner. Takes much more skill and strategy to play now...much more fun as well.

Well every class is good if you use it properly, it's just that the pyro, if played without any skill or experience, will get you dominated by half the enemy team.
Especially now that heavies are the best class against pyros (Natascha can slow them down so that they cannot circle strafe and sandvich can save you from the burning once the pyro is dead-l use Sascha+Sandvich...this combo works so well that l can kill 2 pyros charging @ me from behind and live to tell the tale.
On the other side, the pyro can be very fun to play if you know how to use him.

l think that the Heavy is just..well, the most satisfying class to play..even the demo "splorchs" can't be compared to killing seeing evey opponent falling down in front of you while you laugh..this day just reinforced my opinion.
OK, the scenario is this: me (heavy of course)-goldrush, attack.
We were at that 2-way tunnel that leads to the no1 choke point of the map.
I was just camping near the kart, and l killed a pyro charging towards me "this'll teach him a lesson" l thought.
Not only it din't teach him a fuck, but other pyros joined the "party" too!
So l was just mowing down the entire team without breaking a sweat, pyros getting angrier at each death.
Yes, they did kill me sometimes but still...

WAIT!
Before you say type playdemo in console, l don't mean like this.
I mean viewing them outside tf2, and being able to rewind, ff, and even cut and paste some parts (the console commands for these things don't work at all..).

I don't understand the second part of that, but here's my guide to record.

1.) Set graphics down to near minimum.
2.) In the command console type "record (demoname)"
3.) Get the footage you require.
4.) Type "stop" in the console.
5.) Disconnect from the server.
6.) Activate Cheat mode and type in "host_framerate 30"
7.) Set graphics to Max.
8.) Set the game to window mode (This will make the next step easier)
9.) Type "startmovie (moviename) avi"

Using this avi-affix will allow Source to record the footage directly to an AVI file. A pop-up will ask what compression you would like to use. This will pop-up on the desktop, not over the game-overlay, which is why windowed-view is preferred here - otherwise you'll not know what is stalling the process and ultimately end the program in vain. Not using the AVI-suffix will allow you to use the Virtual VideoDub method.

10.) Type "playdemo (demoname)
11.) When demo ends, type "endmovie"
12.) File takes a while to produce, but after it has been played a couple of times (I find), your movie will be saved with all sounds recorded synced with the video.

If you need more help - Facepunch's Solution which I use to help me. This explains the Virtual Videodub method, the method I have blanently "copied" from them and many other things like the Source Smoother
I hope this helps.

Exactly, also now that Pyro's have been given that handy Air Compressor there is more strategy and timing used when playing as the class.

Timing rocket reflections is lots of fun. I still don't have the stupid Hot Potato achievement though.

Agreed. Also isn't the Hot Potato one where you just need to reflect rockets/stickies?

And, on a side note, did you know that the airblast can reflect flares too?

Recording a demo records the actions that happen in the game, not the graphics, so running it at minimum graphics will not risk the chance of slowdown that may occur in a high-graphics situation. Once the demo has been recorded, then you can pump the graphics up to the max, before you "startmovie", ensuring you have pretty graphics in the movie.
