Slavery or Racism
(in general)

First of all, I admit this IS for my homework, but I'm not looking for reasons why either was first. My homework was to ask 15 people this question and record results so I wouls appreciate it if you answered, and reasons would be nice to hear too, just to make conversation :D

I vote for slavery.

But slavery in general would be rich folk abusing the middle and lower class. Simply because the lower/middle class could not earn their way to the top and received no respect. This has been happening for many centuries.

Did you know that Africans came to Spain and even as far as Ireland and took whole coastal villages as slaves during Charles I reign? As such it was actually we who enslaved afterwards and we should not be given the treatment as harsh as we do as they also enslaved yet they have never had to make up for it like the rest of us have?

For example, two African tribes fight. One tribe wins. The winning tribe say "Hey, we need some free labor, why not use the war captives?"

Also, what about times when people hadn't discovered people of other race? There was conflict that led to slavery. Slavery is not just based on racism, it is the need for free labor...just in a cruel and forceful manner. Slavery eventually evolved into feelings of superiority (racism) in my opinion.

Think farther back in history, to the time when the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians. Many wealthy Egyptians looked down upon Jews, as an inferior culture (Racism). The Jews had very little power within the ruling system, so therefore they were considered minorities (No offense). Suddenly, people began to think "Hey! I can force these inferior peons to work for me! Because i have power over them." (Slavery)

Simple.

If the people living in Africa were white, I doubt they would have been made slaves.
