The tracks on "Best Tracks Ever" is being abused i mean come on:
Don't:
279 votes
3,959 listens
239 downloads
So not even 600 people of the 3,959+ people and voted/downloaded combined oO
The Beginning of Time:
3,152 votes
45,979 listens
7,919 downloads
This is even worse, 11,000 out of 45,979 (almost 46,000) people havent voted/downloaded combined?

This happens EVERY week now where the "listens" are completely out of ordinary... dont believe me check this one.
Edict of the Demon: (WTF!? this is voice acting)
212 votes
2,576 listens
60 downloads
Does that not seem slightly strange?

This is even stranger...
Chaoz Fantasy: (paragonXX not XY (see what i did there)
7,008 votes
88,763 listens
16,583 downloads

Almost 89,000 listens and only 23,500 votes+downloads combined oO

Now you may be wondering whats so strange but look at Chaoz Devotion:
2,982 votes
26,865 listens
52,343 downloads
Downloads is just under double votes and listens combined.

So listening abuse... exists? As much as the mass download webpage.

I happen to know the author of that track (he is my brother), and I know for a fact that he doesn't use any scripts to boost score, amount of listens, or downloads. Nor does he do this himself without the use of scripts.

I didn't either, at first, but then I check my first couple of submissions way back in april of 06 and they have more downloads than listens, which is odd because you have to view the page to download.

If it WAS because of the redesign, I think it was done out of poor planning, because resetting the listens provides no benefit to anything or anyone.

well you see

Before the redesign all submissions by an author was loaded on one page right? Since now each song has a page for its own, it's fairly easy to have a script count how many hits that page gets. Not so easy to do the same thing with the entire page there was pre-redesign

DO NOT -
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES -
attempt to have a look at my news post. IT WILL LEAVE YOU SEVERELY DAMAGED IN AN AGONIZING PAIN

It's true.

listens count didn't even exist before the new design. It's not difficult to understand some extremley popular songs are unbalanced one way or another.

I don't think it's that big of a deal.
My most listened song is just below 1000 and my votes are well below 100 and downloads are also under 100. My point is that most songs will have more listens than downloads and votes, and often it will be far greater, maybe because of refreshing the page, but also because some people may listen to a song without voting or downloading, they may have voted once but feel like listening to a song a few times a day without downloading or voting again. Some artists may go to their own songs more than once because they want to see their downloads, as I think that's the only way to do it. It probably happens most to the popular songs because they have heaps of fans and the fans will listen to their songs on a regular basis. The fact is that we can't monitor what each newground user is doing when they listen to music from the audio portal. It's ok to listen to a song without voting or reviewing or downloading. No one's forcing them to do anything. So I don't see what the fuss is about.

Also, what does the listen count do to your audio's stats? Surely it can't be as drastic as votes or downloads...

I think there are a crap load of listens (especially for Paragon) because it's been here for so long.
A track may get a bunch of listens from a SINGLE user in one day. Although that user may love that song, they could have voted on it once, and downloaded once.

I'm only guessing...

Yeah, we all like seeing lots of Votes and Downloads, but to be honest, most Regular NG users besides us dont know a thing about the music. So it really doesnt matter :P

i'll say it again stats don't mean a thing...

even on GOOD music sites like imusicscene.com i wouldn't pay much attention to the stats... the only thing you should really pay attention to is your actual reviews... listen to what the people are saying and if they are being critical, take it on the chin, maybe there right, maybe they are being constructive, maybe they even offer good advice, don't let your ego be shattered cos people don't think your amazing...

but seriously if you want a decent "audio portal" sign up to imusicscene.com or soundclick.com or both... there are others out there too... lots more.. all better than the AP

Does that not seem slightly strange?

This isn't strange at all to me. Considering that I submitted this track. I do find it to be disheartening that there are individuals that believe that audio entails just music exclusively. Come on... it's the primary reason why the voice acting category was created to begin with. Most people showcase their shit for only a few seconds and that's that. I myself, since I don't publish a track for at least 2-3 weeks on end, vote my shit up so it gets attention. It makes sense that part of the votes and listens are from me.

It also pisses me off that you believe the top tracks are just for songs exclusively, which puts any trust I have in you into question as to what your definitions are. Open mind? I doubt that now.

Offended that you think this way? Yeah, to an extent. But it'll pass over time, unless you put salt into it... Which I don't think you'll do.

That's all I have to say for now.

Die...

Hmm...Some of it may be abuse and some of it may be people being lazy. A lot of people just come to listen to the song and don't feel like voting or something of the sort. Also the song could be linked to someones friend, they listen. Etc. Chaoz Devotion and Fantasy are popular songs none the less. So regardless if it does or does not exist, what will you do?

Imo, change the listen count to start - finish. Isn't that an actual listen? From the beginning to the end of the song? ...
