So imagine you're on your way to a destination on your own and a group of three kids aged between 16-19 are walking your way. They seem to be average build and average strength. It does not not matter what colour their skin is. They aren't wearing anything to conceal their faces, maybe a hat (a baseball cap). You are in an area where there aren't many people, probably just you and them. The area is covered like a pedestrian tunnel.

They stop you and tell you to give them your wallet and phone. They have no weapons just their fists and they definitely don't have any, neither do you except the things you usually carry like keys. They will start a fight if you refuse. Whether you do have a phone or wallet on you doesn't matter. They will fight you even if you show them you have nothing to value to give them.

How would the situation go on from there for you if you don't hand your possessions to them? Forget saying you would co-operate with them, they're looking to fight you. Who would throw the first punch? What if you could use your words to make them go away? Are you able to talk to them so they don't assault you?

For me I would be sure they would start to fight before hitting them. I would attempt to hit one, back away and hit for another. Just run around one punching each of them and repeating. This is how I would think I'd want to get rid of these muggers. In reality I have never been mugged maybe because I don't look like someone who would be an easy target. Some muggers don't have any prejudice on who they mug as long as they're is only one of you and more of them.

Chances are I would say "no" or "fuck off" and wait for them to walk away. Or I would walk away being sure they were not following me. If I really got in a fight I could just take down one and ensure the others won't attack me. I don't know who would lose the fight but there is a higher chance that they will win as there is more of them. Then again I could say something that that will make them think twice of assaulting me. I would walk away because running makes me look like a tosser.

Protection for me is a leather jacket whenever I go out. Currently during this winter I would wear that jacket, a hoodie which I will only wear the hood during rain, a t-shirt, denim jeans and some trainers. It will resist attacks well but I would still feel the pain if I got a punch to the gut.

I have no combat training at all so I have to rely on what I hope will work. I have seen self defence TV shows but nothing technical. Just the thought of going straight for the neck or face.

Saying someone would mug me has a low probability as I rarely leave the house but there is a college very close to me and there is the odd twat.

I walk home from work everyday so a mugging is very possible. If I found myself being mugged I would tell them my phone isn't worth shit. I'm dead fucking broke except for change. If they still insist on taking my pitiful belongings. I would make a scene, like start screaming fire at the top of my lungs. Hopefully, that will take them by surprise and buy me some time to get the fuck out of there. I don't think I could take on multiple people in a fight. So I 'll take the safe, cowardly way out and run like hell.

You would freeze up, shit your panties a little, give them what they want... and then either stand still looking at the ground, or get your ass kicked anyway. How bout that, I was mugged by seventeen year olds, but they were crap muggers and only took my phone and mp3 player. Didn't even ask or my wallet or my bag, and then they ran off.

Then they got caught two days later for doing it again. Quality stuff.

In that situation, though, I've no idea what I'd do, I've got no fighting skills whatsoever, but if I did happen to get the chance, fist the the throat and knee to the genitals, and then run like fucking fuck.

I would agree that I would freeze for a short while, shake a little bit but I'm not letting some little shits with no weapons take control of me.

And yes leather coats won't provide much protection but if you wore a thin shirt you would be beaten down quicker.

I would try and convince them not to fight me. I'd probably lose. I'm not big enough to fight 3 people that age.

If it came down to a fight, I'd be cheap and fight dirty, kick to the balls, punch in the nose. I have some kickboxing up my sleeve too.
Then maybe run for it if i can manage to get them on the ground.

Well I meant even with a leather coat... I highly doubt they would be punching your body... until you fell to the ground, then I'm sure they would kick you around a bit.

I would lay into one of them completely, forget the others, I'd dive for the ringleader and do everything in my power to beat the crap out of him, punches to the head, kicks to lower body/legs. I imagine I wouldn't get very far, being female and quite slow, plus there'd be more of them but I wouldn't give them anything of mine at all. Plus 80% of the time that I leave my house I have my dog with me, she would bite anyone who would lay a hand on me.

It is human instinct to protect the face so if they can't get to that they'll go for the body.
