i'm busy downloading shit on my new computer. i just installed steam, and it takes 1 hour to download 24% of CS:S.
is it just me? or is it my computer? (2,66ghz, windows XP SP2 pro, 1,5gb ram, using a modem for internet connection which is 100mbt.) or are there other people who get slow as shit download times?

Mine is way worse, it takes me 5 hours to download a 300mb file.

The files are big, so it may just be that. Also, if you dont have Half Life 2, then it has to download more files I tihnk.
I generally get a stable 350kb/s with steam.

I had a worse computer, but it took about 12 hours, so I goofed off.

FYI, the 100mbt is the maximum capacity of the cable. You most likely have a connection somewhere between 2mb/s and 8mb/s.

i got 340kbs as a result at the speedtest.net website. though now that i'm done downloading bioshock (were running both downloads at the same time.) the speed of steam downloads now went too 440kbs.
does multiple downloads affect eachother?

You don't tell us what progam you use, or if you don't don't read this.
If your using a bittorrent client, e.g . azureus, it will balance the speed between 2 downloads, even one download is way faster.
Maybe you use progams like Newleecher, they can't do mutiple downloads, so it won't affect...
