I'm watching ABC news right now, and in New Hampshire on the eve of the second primary Barack Obama carries a nine-point lead in the early polls. Just a few days ago, he was tied with Clinton at 30%. While this is certainly not a sure thing as yet, Obama's new lead is the first definite signs that he is a contender with Clinton.
Is this a turning point in the Democratic presidential primary campaign? Surely, Clinton will win some states, but Obama now has the early momentum, and the greatest advantage. Will Clinton be able to turn this tide of public fervor around in her direction instead of Obama's?

Obama's always been a contender and you can't really call this a turning point, he did win Iowa.
Really this is just letting the good times roll for him.
But regardless, I've never taken much stock in pre caucus or pre election polls, there's two many numbers and two many answers.
I'll just wait till tommorow night.

I think he's got a really good chance. Hopefully this momentum he's gained from Iowa (and if all turns out well, New Hampshire) will sway some of the undecided voters in other states to his favor. The undecided voters still outnumber the decided ones by leaps and bounds, so this race could go any which way.

You're definitely one of the stupidest fucking retards on this board. Seriously, go outside for a few minutes. It'll be healthy considering you've been under a rock for the past 50 years.

For the entire of 2007, he trailed Clinton in these polls by up to 25%. Suddenly, he's ahead by quite a large margin.
Sure, he always had the capacity, but he didn't seem intent on pursuing it until he made that speech at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner back in November.
I kind of think if he gains the nomination, this will be viewed as the turning point.

See, here is the thing. Once people start yelling that his middle name is Hussein things might change, don't you think? Even a few votes lost to racism is dangerous for him at the moment.
Regardless, I hope he doesn't win. He seems rather sincere, but he is too inexperienced to properly handle the world today and the precarious position of the USA. Maybe before 9/11 someone like him could appear to be a good leader, but I think that nowadays experienced pragmatism is more important than childish ideals.
My friend believes that maybe fresh blood will be good for the USA, but I am not convinced.

And your point is? I mean, you expect everyone to be level-headed and capable to think beyond this after 9/11, Al Qaeda, Iraq, Iran, etc? Racism is complicated and is more ingrained in society, thought subtle, than people believe. Sometimes not subtle at all... but those tend to be Republicans.

The whole problem with the tide is it comes in twice a day, which means it goes out twice a day...the only consistancy is it hits the high mark about 50 + minutes later each time & vice versa when it falls & the level it rises & falls changes depending on the time of month as well as year..........
I guess its not that cosistent after all.
Just like the polls !

But see, Obama's strenght lies in the youth vote, and young people are far less inclined to be racist and smart enough to not let something silly like a foreign sounding name or skintone affect their vote.

I'm fairly certain that once Obama wins the nomination and ultimately the presidency, he is going to surround himself with experienced people to make up for his "inexperience". You don't honestly think that the president flies completely solo and makes all of his decisions without first consulting a bunch of experienced strategical experts do you? How else would Bush have made it even this far if he didn't have advisors? (Though in retrospect, he should probably have fired the lot of them and consulted someone with a soul instead.)

Yeah, my veiw on that is that the media has become aware that we the people are becoming so fucking sick of their stupid lies, Hillary,Obama, and Edwards were never front runners at all.
So they switch to their second corporate funded person who will make laws in their favor so it will make people think things are actually changing slightly.
I for one supported Obama at one time, but not anymore, Dennis Kucnich was fucking excluded fromt he New Hampshire debate, by ABC! The little fuckers from the retarded Disney corporation gave the order to exclude him because his plans would mean bye bye to their abuse of America's laws.
Disney has fucking companies all over the world who's workers have no rights and no child labor laws, they gave the order because one of Dennis's plans is to have a Universal nonprofit health care system not only to all Americans, but all companies from other countries trading with America, meaning the loss of millions for Disney.
Is anyone getting at what I'm saying?

California has a bigger vote count-- and CA has been leaning towards Clinton.
This family, even Republican mama, are solid on Clinton.
And my uncles and cousins, who don't care, is allowing us to make their choices.
Guess whom we're picking for them.
It aint over till the fat lady sings--
It may be rather insignificant, but I hope that if I can make one of my Latino friends vote for one of their families... we can swing this for the better. It maybe not that hard-- Republicans have lost tons of their Latino voters, so I'm going to try to make my close and personal friends vote Hilary if they either 1.) don't care, or 2.) like Hilary, but just don't vote.

Yes, they have been, and they still are. You think those polls were conducted out of said corporate media barons ass's? Even independent polls show that.
So they switch to their second corporate funded person who will make laws in their favor so it will make people think things are actually changing slightly.
See preveius bit.

And you have evidence that they did this? In anycase, kucinich is a fringe candidate, with very little actual support (what was it, 2 percent in iowa?).

personally i have no view on the election beyond "don't vote for Guliani" and "if they say in an answer an excuse for their strange views kick them from your mind immediately" But so far Obama seems like he would make the best joke... JOIN THE OBAMA-NATION!

To you, they probly wouldn't be THAT much different. To us, they are.
And do any of them give a shit about the environment?
What rational minded person would?
I mean... yes, protect the enviornment. But if I see some loopy, hardcore enviornmentalist telling me "NO! THERE'S AN ENDANGERED OWL IN THERE!", i'm going to slap him/her in the face and say "WELL IF THE OWL WAS SMART HE WOULDN'T BE ENDANGERED!".

Das Tollste dabei ist... Das gilt auch für Sie.
First of all, if you're really from Germany this is highly ironic that you feel you're in a position to make such a criticism.
The US is not any more racist than other countries and in fact, if you look at polls of people in the US that claim to be racist, it's much lower than in countries that people like you would never consider to be racist. You're used to hearing Americans are racist, and you're used to getting a tainted version of history so that you can ignore your own racism and point your finger at the US.
Das geht mir auf die Nerven.
it's so sad because I was hoping he would have a chance at this
He will have a chance, and I'm going to laugh when European media says something like "Americans are still racist, they just elected a black President because they want people to THINK they aren't racist anymore".
Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:
-The compliant mainstream media for their pro-Obama propaganda.
-Black Panthers for their intimidation of voters.

The candidate that I support the most is Bill Richardson. Because the media doesn't care about him, and I would assume partly because he isn't very good looking, nobody knows/cares about him. I was a Obama supporter until I recently decided to really pay attention, and look at all of the candidates' policies. Although I agree with most of Obama's stances, I believe that Richardson has the best thought-out plans.
