As was said, all aircraft following September 11th were grounded except for several government-authorized flights to remove the bin Laden family and other influential Arab families from the United States as quickly as possible.

And now they're at it again. Because somebody left a boxcutter and fake explosives in a bathroom in a couple of them (in Houston and New Orleans), complete with a note stating "THIS IS A TEST", all planes are being checked.

In case it wasn't clear:
1.) The horse disappeared over the horizon two years ago, and the stable was demolished.

Those who hate the USA hate it because they cannot understand that it is more then its military or its economy. The United States is a home for 282 million people. When you attack my country's political behavior I see no problem with that regardless of my own opinion. However, when you insult my culture and my way of life you are also insulting me, my friends, and my family. Those of us who are American have every reason to be angry and respond. I dislike people using the "They hate us because they hate freedom," argument. It's not that, it's not as simple as that, and it has never and will never be as simple as that. It's justr like saying that Osama bin Laden's plan was to kill mass amounts of people. While I do not deny that this was part of the plan, I can see him thinking bigger. The economy is just now rising (and from the looks of it, it's a boom-and-bust cycle starting again), which begs the question: did Osama plan the attacks to corkscrew the U.S. and world economies into the ground? I would certainly be feasable.

unfortunately, you are incorrect. america is an entity, it is a superpower, it is a hegemony... true it may be a melting pot, but there are two dominant culture that controls the direction of american politics, the corporate media culture and consumer culture. i don't want to sound like some wacko conspiracy theorist, but the interests of corporations assisted by corporately owned media do control the direction of our foreign policy and also who is voted into office due to the sad state of campaign financing. on the other hand, the consumers, the jane and john smith everyman of america, is responsible for providing the check and balance to this corporate entity. unfortunately we don't do such a good job... the grass roots movements that spring up and take advantage of the power with which american citizens are imbued are most often misguided and shortsighted.

the melting pot (or "salad" if you will) of cultures really doesn't matter on more than a very superficial level, since the actions you take according to that mean nothing as long as the outcomes in your nation continue to be determined by economic forced beyond your control.
