OK, Newgrounds. I've been doing a lot of research about Cloverfield on the promotional webistes and stuff (I had a lot of caffine earlier and I barely have a life). This will get you a lot of info as well as links to the promotional websites like Slusho and Jaime loves Teddy if you don't have them. Anyway, I just want to hear what you all think.
Personally, I have two theories:
1. The Chuai Station is not drilling for oil, they are drilling for the "kaitei no mitsu" (seabed's nectar) for Slusho. It is actually a highly addictive substance who's side effects include hyper-growth. A lot is leaking, causing marine life to become infected, which includes whales. This is the monster. There are many that spread all around the world, which is why New York is simply one of many cases.
There are also various whale parisites who live on these whales. One of these was sent to Jaime in its small state, and must be frozen to kept small. She didn't freeze it, and is trying to get to her through the door in the last movie. There is a sound on this video which is the same as the roar heard in the previews. The paricites also carry super-concentrated seabed's nectar in their bite, which is why people expand/explode when "they have a bite."
Of course, at this time, no whales are big enough, but they are getting there. Tagruato is ignoring the situation so as to avoid going out of buissiness again. On 1/18/07, one of these whales will surface in New York.
2. All the viral websites exist to throw everyone off the track of the real plot. To go even further, the announced cast may be a complete fake as well, but that is not likely.
