I noticed the common problem in this swords get you killed from long range and guns run out of ammo so... Get a GUNBLADE except unlike FF8 you can change the extrapower from the gunblade's close range into an actual gun that shoots from the side of the sword maybe even from both sides together. You get both no problem.
You could also invest in one of these.

its not worth it the longer range also means less stopping power.
