What's Up With Halo 3's Ending?

Alright, I put a lot of thought into making this thread, because frankly I just didn't understand it. How could Bungie say, with confidence BTW, that Halo 3 was the "Stunning Conclusion to the Halo Trilogy"? It ended in another cliff-hanger! In addition, previous members of the Bungie staff had made the claim that the Marathon Security Android was in fact John-117. Coupled with the belief that Bungie's next project is most likely a next-gen Marathon game, we have 2 options of belief for the future of the halo franchise...

1)The Master Chief ends up on Onyx, where he and Cortana will meet up with the other Spartans and rescue them.
2) The Chief ends up as the Security Android from Marathon.

I don't what Bungie was thinking when they decided to make Halo 3's ending, but I for one didn't like how open-ended it was (for the last game in a trilogy).

When that portal closed it cut the ship in two. (I think)

I've seen the ending after the credits (complete and everything, BTW). I'm just a little pissed that the ending became a cliffhanger, -sob-. I really just want to know the future of the Chief.

At least it's not a shitty cliffhanger like in Halo 2.

And besides, chances are Bungie isn't continuing the story of Master Chief, so guessing what happens after is most likely pointless.

Damn right, my friend. It was the portal that seperated the ship. However, I don't believe the chief and Cortana were stuck at the "Ark side" of the portal, just separated after getting through it....

Before i got any of the Halos my friend and i played the last level of halo 3 at his house (on easy because i suck) and after we beat it he told me about the part after the credits, because i didn't have time to wait through the credits to watch it.
And later that week i thought that well forerunner robos are ticked so there after you and who said the rest of the covenet isn't gonna kill now that you've killed all the profets?
And now that i've watched the after-credit clip he said (and i quote) "wake me when you need me", and that generally means there's more to come.

so all i can say is what the heck is wrong with you bungie, cause i don't get how you can say "what will the fore runner do to take revenge, how will the rest of the covenet take revenge find out next time in Halo Fou...wait a minuet there isn't gonna be a halo 4, so i geuss you'll never know"

oh and you didn't destroy the rings you just destroyed the only way to fire tham all at once-- the Ark--so you can still fire one at a time

Instead of pointing out the story errors, lets just point out the technical errors that made Halo 3 suck... for example 16:9 TVs in multiplayer were forced to play in 4:3... making the whole experience suck more cock than Maus on a first date.
