So, if you see a review and it has been marked as helpful, does that reviewer get anything in return for writing a good and helpful review or is it to just show that the reviewer has skills in reviewing?
In other words, what is the point of it?

No. Making a review as helpful or not will not affect your whistle. Only by marking it as abusive will get you whistle points.

Ummm... to let you know when your review has been helpful? Just because nobody uses it, it seems worthless. But there are some users who mark reviews as helpful. There's more to reviewing than just OMG LETS FLAG DA FUX OUT OF ERRYTHANGGGG, there's people out there who actually try to be helpful with their reviews, and then people come and flag them as helpful, and pat themselves on the back ;P

The review could be unhelpful but not abusive... If you actually understood why there was a 'yes' button you'd see why there was a 'no' button; but most of you just see one button, the button that will give you points.
Also, this could be wrong, due to me not being around (cux ima n00b)... but i assume there was a yes/no system originally, and then at a later date, the whistle system was introduced. If someone could confirm/deny this that would be swell ;)

Well I've had an account in 2003, and before then had een lurking in 2002. I can tell you that the abusive button does indeed pre-date whistle points, however it's been here at least as long as I have.

It tells how many people agree with the review. It also saves time so you don't have to read terrible reveiws.
