Take the beta max and the vhs that was the standard.
Nowbeta max actually had better quality. It was better then the competition. Why didn't it become the standard? Because those who had the vhs said that the vhs could store more hours on it then the beta max. What they didn't say was that because it could store more, it would have less quality because it is stretched out.
It all goes down to which product are more people interested in.
If you were selling a mega big hi-def screen tv and another was selling a junk tv, and there was someone comming to buy the rights to one of the tvs, and more people were going for the junk tv, which one would he choose?
would he choose yours because it is better looking? no. he would choose the one that is getting more money.
What ever sells more is the winner, regardless of quality.
With the product, the quality isn't always how they catch customers, they also have a sales pitch too that gets people's attention.
So which one will win the "format war" as some call it for stupid reasons? Don't know. Blu-ray has better quality, but that means nothing. If blu-ray is getting better sales, then blu-ray will come on top, but the market can always swing to the other way in a heart beat.
Also, blu-ray and hd-dvd. I dont see the difference. There is some difference, but you have to be a real nit picky kind of person to actually care about them.
They're both too expensive for what little they offer. Fuck em both.

In time the price will go down. Remember how expencive dvds when they first came out?

True. But CD's and DVD's were a revolution in technology. The death of standardized film.
Blueray and HD are, at their basics, DVD's with sharper picture quality. For an extra 800 bucks. Goody.

Still, in time the price will go down. And I agree that it isn't much of a step foward. Just an upgrade then a totally new format.
It's for better quality with the hd-tv's, which will be the standard tv in maybe 5-7 years.
DVDs look fine to me.
I don't particularly want the images on my TV to look better than life itself.

I think high-def shouldn't really be of the norm, but an option for those who can afford it. DVDs should still sell.
Anyway, Blu-Ray seems better to me though, it has more movies than Hd-Dvd.

I tried looking for something other than better definition for both formats earlier and there is literally nothing.
All there is, is ONLINE FEATURES. Instead of putting those features on the discs you have to go online.
Plus I looked at a few box sets and the discs are separate. Instead of Spiderman 1-3 being on one disc where on blu ray you can get 50GB of storage it's on 3 discs. So naturally yes, it is a higher definition DVD with nothing to offer.

Don't you think that's a little... selfish?

Yeah Blu-ray is definitely going to win out now since the choices are narrowed and most of the stuff on hd dvd is available on blu-ray and not vice versa.
