Lakota Indians Withdraw Treaties Signed With U.S. 150 Years Ago
That's right, the Lakota Nation has officially declared indepedence from the United States and are sending envoys to establish separate diplomatic relations with other nations. They plan to issue their own drivers licenses and passports. The reasons they are leaving (not all are necessarily in this article) include broken trreaties and continuing enchroachment on their lands.
So far, their has been little reaction in the press. What does everyone think about this and what will the consequences be. It will be interesting to see what, if any reaction we will see from the president tomorrow.

Lol.
This is hilarious.
That's all I have to say right now.
Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:
-The compliant mainstream media for their pro-Obama propaganda.
-Black Panthers for their intimidation of voters.

So now in the middle of maps, there's going to be a little red square just for the indians?
Le funny. I wish Colbert was still on, this would surely be right on there.

I have no problem with them declaring independence.

....... WOW
I wonder how long this will last. Anyone tip something along the lines of an embargo? Who bets it'll implode.
Also yeah I wish Colbert/ Daily Show was on. It's coming back January apparently with or without the writers though. I wonder how it'll hold up.

Technically it's US territory, so declaring independence is really more of an 'invasion'
But i do admit, it's kind of funny. The fall of the united states shall be marked by the rise of the Lakoto Empire.
Maybe fox news made it all up.

This won't last long. U.S. government will make up some reason to take them back, or will embargo them so bad they will come begging readmittance into the union.

I'm sure the government will take this about as seriously as they do the Conch republic. But if I was in charge I would probably completely isolate the area I mean it shouldn't be hard to do seeing as it's fucking enclaved withing The U.S. and as soon as they cave in charge the leaders for treason just to make an example out of them for any crazy Dixies or Vermonters.

Looks like the US Army will have to start handing out "blankets" once more.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that was the Brit originally.

Because anyone who wants independence is called a traitor.

This is what they said, The treaties have been "repeatedly violated in order to steal our culture, our land and our ability to maintain our way of life," the reborn freedom movement says.

In the last 60 years, how and when was it violated?
If they didn't have a problem for 150 years, why would they have a problem now when there's the LEAST "oppression"?

Well I can't really explain that, but why I originally posted that was to show when ever someone declairs independence they are called traitors, that is all I was pointing out.

Except that they aren't being oppressed to anywhere near the extent of which the colonies were.
They're exempt from so much right now. They have their own land. Their own reservations with their own rules. They even try to dispute child labor laws and claim they don't have to abide by those either.
They're not at war. We're not stationing troops in their homes and raising taxes on them from across an ocean.
They're just whiners.

First off, the Lokata Sioux government never issued this decree, only a group of activists with no legal claim, so untill they relect the Sioux government, nothing has happened.
And also, that map of the proposed Indian Nation that has already been shown has to bee off. As seen in the picture at the bottom, the white areas are the Indian Reservations. What I'm wondering is they seemed to assume that the four courners of Montana, South Dokata, North Dokata, Wyoming and parts of Nebraska to be part of thier nation.
Any land that they have a claim to is the Reservatoins, and any movement from those Reservations would constitute an invasion.

I think something similar like this happened in 1969 until 1971 on Alcatraz Island at San Francisco.
Bunch of Oholone Indian tribe members... occupying the whole island and surviving independently as a people and government.
