I already play guitar, and am looking for other instuments to start playing. I've lowered my choices to the Violin and Cello. Before I go and spend a lot of money I would like to know the pros and cons of each.
Are they both Fretless?
I know the violin is, but what about the cello? (Fretless makes me angray)
What are the ranges of each?
I like lower notes more
How fast can I play on each?
I like the ability to play fast, but it doesn't seem to much of an issue
What Genre are the best suited for?
I'm more of a "Tin Hat Trio" and "O' Fortuna" guy myself
Do they make Electric Cellos?
I like the ability to record without a Mic (Distorted Violin/Cello = Epic)
Any answers?
Google has failed me.

Instead of learning a new instrument, you should take Riverdancing lessons.

Are they both Fretless?
::yup
What are the ranges of each?
::cello can go pretty low
How fast can I play on each?
::not much difference, but violin maybe slightly faster
What Genre are the best suited for?
::cello maybe slightly more flexible then violin
Do they make Electric Cellos?
::yes
Oh yeah, have you considered the piano? The piano is pretty flexible in genres, and if you can play the piano you can also play the keyboard and be an awesome guitar keyboard band guy.
(PS - I play the guitar, piano, and violin)

Well based on the fact that violins are more popular, can be electric, and are are smaller, I'm leaning towards them.
Maybe the local Cello fanatic will come around and learn me some.

This is a music thread, GTFO.
I found out about violas, which are like violins only larger and lower, but then again, electric violins make up for there low volume at low tunings through amplification and equalization.

A violin is probably going to be a lot cheaper than a cello. I'm thinking about purchasing one myself, and I've seen some pretty damned good deals.

If you want to buy a violin because its more popular, can be electric, and are smaller, then question your reasons for wanting to play either of those instruments. It's not about which is smaller, or more popular. It's a matter of which you enjoy playing more.
An instruments popularity determines how many others there will be to help me along my way. And how can I have a preference yet? I havn't started playing. My interests got peaked by the music I've heard played by them
By the way, Electric Guitars take about as much skill as any other instument to play. Sure some are harder for some, I can't play wind instuments very well as I run short of breath quickly.

If you want something you can play as fast as light, violin is the way to go.

Okay, based on the above comments, independent research, and further listening to of Tin Hat Trio, I've decided to buy an Electric Violin. However, I like my violins like I like my guitars: larger models, thicker strings, and down tuning.

Well a cello plays lower note but the violin plays faster. The cello is also bigger which can be an issue.

No! Anyone can play a violin. A cello is more interesting.

They both are. But upright basses are better.What are the ranges of each?
Cello is two octaves lower than violin. And double basses are two more lower than that.How fast can I play on each?
You can totally shred a double..What Genre are the best suited for?
Whatever you want to play them for, really. They're near universal.Do they make Electric Cellos?
Actually they do. And electric doubles.
Go buy a double bass. It can be used in rockabilly, classical, jazz, nujazz, fusion; anything good really.
Bassists get more poon anyways. Just do it.

Play Viola, it's in between the two, and it's cool because of John Cale.
