From The Economist print edition
China may be a smaller economic giant than previously thought
AMERICANS who spend their time fretting about when their economy will be overtaken by China will have gleefully leapt upon new numbers suggesting that China's economy may in fact be 40% smaller than current estimates. However, the new figures, if confirmed, would also mean that the world economy has been growing rather more slowly in recent years than officially reported by the IMF, which is less salutary for everyone.
It is not the Chinese government that has been exaggerating the size of its GDP, but international organisations, such as the World Bank and the IMF, which measure each nation's output in terms of purchasing-power parity (PPP). If China's GDP is converted into dollars using market exchange rates it amounted to $2.7 trillion last year, only one-fifth of America's $13.2 trillion, and the fourth-largest in the world. But a dollar buys a lot more in China than in America because prices of many non-traded goods and services tend to be much lower in poor economies. Converting a poor country's GDP into dollars at market exchange rates therefore understates the true size of its economy.
The new way of calculating PPP does not only affect China, but most of the so called emerging markets, like India ( another article, this one by yahoo finance), and what you have all being waiting for, Argentina.
Aparently we are now defeated in GDP per capita in Latin America by the Chileans. I say all lies, we've grown at a 9% rate for 4 years for nothing, its a stealth jew conspiracy
So chill out, China will take longer to surpass you economically, destroy you culture, and attack you with knives, and cool kung-fu moves.
Oh, the cia factbook hasn't updated their data yet, I'm guessing they'll do that with the new 2007 economic info.

So you're Argentinean and you're a teenager who reads The Economist. I wish I could hate you to death.

Well we have a higher ratio of fat balding men with suits and Harvard business degrees, and we're overall better human beings, so I'm not surprised.

And lousy shoes! I bought chinese shoes once, and man, those shoes sucked. And by chinese shoes I mean shoes that are actually marketed as being chinese instead of hiding their sweatshop origins.

Nah, I googled the news, I read it in Spanish in INFOBAE or as my father calls it, INFOFACHO.
I wonder how hating to death works.

We have more doctors per capita than the US, and we have an automotive industry, I still say all lies.
I saw a report on the GDP of different cities, and it said Buenos Aires had a higher GDP than Sao Paulo, which is all lies as well.

I buy 100USD trainers that are made in Vietnam, meh.
Some shoes are evil, the ones I wore yesterday (and will wear today as well) destroy my feet.
Trainers FTW.
How did I end talking about the superiority of trainers over shoes? It must be the glutamine rebound.
