Think it will be part of their boxing day sale? Not likely :(
Mac's control their prices very well unfortunately. Or fortunately....at least I never feel ripped off by seeing a better price :P
Anyways, all this time I've been playing around with my MBP, I've only had 512MB of Ram for the poor little thing. So for x-mas I managed to grab another Gig and now I'm coasting at 1.5G, which isn't bad considering this only supports up to 2G.
I'll try and explain the difference it made... I was able to open as fast as I could click*harumph*... Mail, iTunes, iPhoto, iDvd, iMovie, Garageband, Calender, Photo Booth, and Microsoft word while still having 377 MB of "Free" memory, and seeing no slowdown of loading times for giants like Garageband. (As there is a difference between free and inactive...free is untouched while inactive has been used to open a program and is on reserve for quick use incase you flip back to it.)
Anyways, programs seem to close much faster, which is often why I get frustrated at slowdowns.
On my Windows side, not much I can say in terms of benchmarking...other than before I was able to play Doom 3 on average settings with a fair frame rate (25-30), but for some reason I am now able to play it on Ultra (recommended 512MB video memory) with about the same framerate. This is especially surprising because it means that my Ram was holding me back, instead of my meagre 128MB video card. All I can assume is that my 128MB video card is doing an excellent job of keeping up.
Meh, these changes only come every now and then... All I can really say is that I highly recommend having over 1G of Ram now for any Macbook...Pro or otherwise. It was well worth the....well...I don't know cause the Ram was a gift!
