Me and a bunch of my friends are creating our very own Sonic the Hedgehog video game. Our head C++ Programmer, a programmer by the name of Dejai, hadn't kept us up-to-date on his progress. So, he was fired. Now we need a new programmer, whos willing to work well with other members, keep us up-to-date, and of course; Have fun! We're a non-profit group, so we use the best of the best programs we can find, such as Blender, and more. We have over 70 members, and even have a full forum for it. In fact, currently, I am working on devoloping the website. If you are interested in joining Sonic Evolution (Name is still in progress, but nearly 100% sure that's the final result) E-mail the leader at joshkrox@hotmail.com
Our forum can be found at Sonic Evolution
Thank you, and have a good day!

Wow, I can't believe this many people have been roped into it so far.
I'm sorry man, but this just isn't going to work. You can't take a huge group of people, cram them into a forum, and pump out a full game. I browsed the programming forum, I only saw a couple people that had familiarity with C++, the rest was posting links to tutorials and making suggestions. The one guy that posted the most C++ stuff, dejai, is 'fired' as you say
Programming in a game is THE MOST important aspect, it's what brings everything together. You can't just recruit random people, show them some C++ tutorials, and expect everyone to be on the same skill level.

It may have been a bad decision firing him.

That's why I'm looking for more programmers. We need many more, our current team is just a portion of what we're working on.
Trust me, read some posts by Exshad, the leader, and you'll see why he was fired.

You're a fucking idiot if you "fired" a guy who can make something like this:

Good choice in game engine (Irrlicht, and irredit) you probably could use irrklang sound library. By the way, newton physics is what you want. This sounds interesting, but, I dont have enough time to devote to this. Go to some place such as www.gamedev.net there's nothing BUT C++ programmers there. Maybe some java and alternate scripting languages......o.O, but mostly all use C++. And, they specialize in games. Check their forum out, see who can help. (I wont promise anybody will help you though. Non-Profit isnt the most popular work form)

Dude, you're the idiot here. He did not make ALL of that stuff. Most of the level came with the engine he's probably using. Irrlicht. The engine comes with examples, and a few utilize a quake three map. that was most of what hgis video had. Maybe a couple of extra rooms, and a character to run around the rooms. That's it. By the way, I recognized it because I use Irrlicht.
Besides, just because a person can promise quality, does not mean they will get it done. Maybe they had good reasons to fire him. I don't really care for that though. All I know is, he didnt make that entire game. Maybe about 39%.but, the rest came with Irrlicht, as one of it's examples.

We fired him because when he signed up, he made a promise that he would regularly update, he would works primarily on this project, and he would stay at the forum to help the C++ noobies.
Problem 1) He was never updating, maybe 1 time a month.
Problem 2) He was taking control of the project, and even ordering the leader who started the group from scratch.
Problem 3) 95% of the time he spent programming, was spent on his game, as you saw.
Problem 4) All posts he made on our forum had some kind of link to his website, or saying he knew more than us, meaning he was trying to recruit some of our people to his project.
Problem 5) He was warned about 6 times over a 4 month period, and was peridodiccly reminded to update, and inform the leader, which he never did.
There were many more problems as well. Just because he's good at programming doesn't mean he gave a crap about our project. So cherries, would you keep him on your team if he broke 80% of his contract?

Say, Afro Ninja, would you like to join? I'm not sure if you know C++ or Python, but you'd be a HUGE help to the group. Plus, if you joined, there would be a 100% chance more people will join. Your one of the most experienced Newgrounds Members here. There is also an opening as the director, who get's almost total control over the project, and will have large freedom. Any intrests?

I might take you up on that offer (unless it's filled of course). Gimme time to think over it. By the way, can I see the required criteria for being the programming director?

Theres always a position available! The more help, the better!
Our Forum (I go under the name Knuckles' Twin there)
T-I-B This is a free, voulenteer project. I cannot pay. Either way, if we could pay, I'd have to pass it by the leader.

Ok, I may just join. But, thing is. As director, I'm sure you have to have a lot of time on your hands. I have school homework end other projects. Of course, I could make time, but that would still leave school to work with. My Christmas break is coming up, so, if I was to get anything started ikn this project it would be then or never........it lasts from December 20th to January 22nd

90% of us are 13-18, so we have the same problems! ;D It's possible. All you have to do is check up maybe once or twice a day for any announcements, and that's it. Fact is, the project may not even get into the design stage until June or so, so then you have Summer Vacation. The only reason we're looking for a new director is because our old one just suddenly dissappeared for 2 months.

1.) Did you contact Sega and get permission for such a project?
2.) Non-Profit or not acquire any liscence rights or permission from ANYONE preventing a law suit of making a game based around trademarked characters, ect... ?

Yeah, and another thing to point out. No one on Newgrounds who has made a flash about Halo, Sonic, Zelda......none have ever been sued. I believe they can only sue you if you try to sell the game. As a fan game, for free, it has no chance of being sued.

Yeah, we've proof-checked all this. As long as we don't take credit for their work, and sell it for money, we are un-sueable.
Kingdarkeyes, can you contact the group leader about the Director position, he just wants to see if your up for the job. Just contact gim at joshkrox@charter.net

I study programing in both C++ and JavaScript, and by just teaching some people C++ won't give you any results for the making of a game. It may take intense months of study to just start to have an idea of how to make a game.

Months? Rofl, try a year or so.... Help most beginners are still in the 'console' applications by a few months!? Anyways in short I do agree with his point it takes a hell of a lot of practice, time, and patience to pull off a game. I've been programming C++ for around 5 years now, and I can tell you for a fact this is going to be a loooooooonnnnngggggggggg haul. I would almost have to say I would die of a heart attack if this actually get's anywhere close to being done within a year. :S
