Nomatter what happens, an American needs to stand by his country when it needs them. It took care of you, and you should take care of it.. I sure as hell will--will you?

For me it depends, just hope that it won't come to this for the most part.

Restaurant story aside, the government is the only thing keeping you safe at night. You grossly underestimate the value of your protection.

You overestimate it.

They failed during 9/11, they failed during Katrina. They failed to protect Michigan, they failed to fix education. They're letting Social Security wash down the drain, and they've failed to take care of Medicare.

All the areas they promise to help the people in, they FAIL. Each and every damn time.

So one of two things needs to happen. Either government needs to stop making promises and decrease in size, or the people need to stop relying on the government.

Either way, there's only one thing I've ever gotten from government in my entire life. And that's a bill.

Their job is to protect us from invasion. We haven't had that threat in the last 100 years.

I was talking about our military, but I do agree with those points. The bureaucracy we have is pretty much only good at eating money, and the best thing they do for us is work in foreign affairs.

I would love for it to decrease in size, that is why I vote Republican. The Democrats want big government, which doesn't appeal to me. I'm all for government butting out of many issues, but I do not think a military would work well in the hands of the people.

Either way, there's only one thing I've ever gotten from government in my entire life. And that's a bill.

Hah, I know how you feel.

You might want to rethink that statement...

If there is a draft I will flee to Canada at the earliest time possible. I'm not sure I have it in me to kill someone.

Because you're a pussy.

That's an attitude idiots like you would take as an excuse not to go. It wouldn't matter if the war was justified or not.

BULLCRAP!!!

If the government wants to risk MY life for their war they better have a god damn good reason to do so. Otherwise I'm gone.

WWII scenario, sure, i don't want to be invaded.

Spanish American war? No, i would be very displeased. But never the less, Drafts aren't suitable for modern military.

Hitler could never have invaded AMerica. This is a historical myth/lie that has been propegated by the governemtns schools for ages now. It needs to stop. He couldn't get 15 miles across the Channel and was making no headway by the time FDR decieved the nation into the war anyway for god sake...

But anywho... I will NOT be enslaved. I will NOT leave.
I refuse to flee from my enemies and will not submit to being forced into ANYONES service.

Agreed. That's the one thing that I have no issue with being under government control. But my health, my profession, lifestyle choice, etc? Nuh uh.

Government shouldn't have a say in what I can and can't do (within reason), or what I can and can't choose.

I'm 21. Which means I'll be paying bundles into Social Security, which will be defunct by the time I'm retired. Why should I have to pay into a system that I KNOW won't take care of me? I don't get that option, and even though government says "don't worry, we'll fix it"......I don't buy it, sorry....

They can run the army, they just can't seem to run anything else.

You might want to rethink that statement...

I did, and I stand by it. There have only been two times in the last 100 years I can think of of foreign "invasion". Pearl and 9/11. All other wars we've faced have been purely offensive in nature.

The Russians were the closest we ever faced to being invaded or attacked on native soil, and even then it didn't happen. But Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf Wars, Grenada, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Somalia, and the entirety of South America are pure offensive.

I don't think a single one of the countries we've attacked has had the propensity to attack us first, which is precisely why I don't buy the "we're under siege" lines the government feeds. From who? The terrorists? It took em 5 years to plan a single successful attack. And 9/11 was 8 years since their last attack. From Iran? You gotta be shitting me. The Iranians couldn't even take down Saddam, and we had destroyed his armies twice in a matter of weeks and months.

I do not believe we've had an outside threat to the soverignty of the United States in 100 years. Hitler might have come close, but he couldn't even take England.

The army's job is to protect us from threats both domestic and foreign. Protect. Implies defense. Not offense.
