Watch out fellow NG users.
I've been told that there is kind of a new virus. It appears as a pop-up, like an error that is announced to you as a pop-up. If you find it "weird" or whatever, DON'T CLICK NOTHING, and restart your computer, by whatever means. The virus apparently reboots your PC and the bastard will never restart again !
So watch out !
I don't know about it yet, how it looks or whatever.
I've just been told.
So be careful.
I don't know if it is a hoax or not.
Be careful.

Latest new fools:
It's not a pop-up. It's some evil script like the fuck I know that installs itself alone.
To see if you have it, CTRL+ALT+DELETE > Task Manager > Processes, click on "Image Name" field under the "Processes" tab and if you have "msblast.exe", you are fucked, and check the linx to see how to get rid of it.

This worm is not spread through POP-UP ads. If Internet Browsers had access to critical workings of the PC like this, there would be a much bigger problem than this right now. It's only had minimal infection so far. The main purpose of the worm is to perform a DOS attack on the windows update site and not to lick the contents of your HDD clean. It also looks as though this worm is targetted to attack servers rather than your average home user.

There is also a new email virus about. It exploits a bug in Internet Explorers' header which cause it to be run and installed by not even opening the email! I recieved one today, and it corrupted important system files and stuff. I had the completely wipe my computer - I couldn't even copy things to CD because it wouldn't let my RW work. Now everything is gone, including a flash movie I had been working on for some time, important schoolwork (my teachers are gonna kill me) - Everything.

Ya this wrom virus is realy bad, but it dosn't spread by popups, this wrom virus jumps to computer to computer with out warning, the only way to protect yourself is to have a Firewall.
ya my friends computer got infited, and last night in 2hours my computer blocked 74virus from entering my computer, and i saw 3,645,124KaZaa users drop to 2,724,645users that day.

It hits random IP addresses. It goes from one computer to the next. It infects windows xp,2000,nt, and server 2003. BMW in Germany got hit by it also. Go to Microsoft it is giving a free fix.

A firewall may help but not necessarily prevent this msblaster virus. If you are running certain public services (usually commercial) there is a potential threat.

This symantec link has some detailed data about the worm and it's variants.
