People saying GAY?

Are too many people retarded, stupid, or plainly crazy?

Im just wondering, as i see when i go through my school, and at other places, you hear someone say "YOUR GAY!".
Understanding that it means, liking men, yadda-yadda <ETC> i dont see how it can be much of an insult.
I hear it in school, someone will call someone else "YOUR GAY" or something like "THATS GAY"
And they refer it to being stupid, or really dumb, yadda-yadda (Yet again)
So really, are we plainly saying "GAY" for the sake of it, and not knowing what it means.
Or do we actually mean we are being "GAY"....

Also, another comment, if you shake hands with someone or put your arm around someones neck like a friend, it`ll count me as "GAY"
