New Contest!

Now that the "Portal Removal" contest has finally come to an end, we have some new contests!

The first one doesn't require as much thinking... All you have to do is sign up for a Newgrounds account (or log in to your existing account and check off the box in your personal profile) to enter. The contest is for free Godsmack merchandise and you can learn more about it right here, as well as play a Godsmack boxing game! Pretty cool, eh? Be sure to check out the links for other boxing games at the bottom of that page.

The second contest is for Flash artists. I've recently been trying to bulk up our Dragon Ball Z parody collection. Now that it has more meat, I think we need to move on to other cool anime - stuff that is less known in the US. Some examples off the top of my head are Cowboy Beebop (kicks ass), Outlaw Star, Trigun and Ninja Scroll (everyone should see this one).

We already have two Trigun movies in The Portal (that I know of), such as this one by Dan Malo. But NG is all about excess, so we need MORE MORE MORE! I have seen tons of DBZ and Pokemon spoofs - it is time to tackle some of the more obscure (and often better) anime classics. I will pick the best new anime spoof/tribute on NG and send the author a free movie of their choice (assuming availability and realistic price)! So go make some art! :)

umm, jeah. i remember watching ninja scroll, dude that was a kickass movie! i taped it so maybe i will go get the tape, watch it a couple more times and maybe think of something that i could possible do with it in flash. i havent seen any of those other anime shows/movies you mentioned but i mite check em out! i put ninja scroll down as one of my top 3 favorite movies =D!.... jeah c yaz

Hey a really great anime out there is 'Vision of Escaflowne'. It has giant mecha battles, some blood, a war, an illegitimate kid, and a gender changing pyromaniac! It sounds weird, but it shows off some quality artwork.

Yeah! Ninja Scroll kicks ass and is great anime, but Ninja Ressurection, and Wrath of the Ninja stink (Well okay, Ninja Ress imho, but I have never seen Wrath of the Ninja yet). We could definately use some Vision of Escaflowne serious flash, or some weird chatoic movie involving the Transformers and Wilson from Cast Away.

How abouts some great parodies or serious flash of the older anime out there? Fist of The North Star would be cool, as would Akira. Man, Akira is kickass, and it would be cool to seeother people's take on it, seeing as you COULD continue the story.
Maybe even a Ghost In The Shell parody would rock.

As for someones comments on the bad movies, well they do suck and all, but the auto deletion normally copes with the main brunt of them.

what about ghost in the shell that is a legend of anime or maby angel links? well i geuss thats really outlaw star. or maby be original and make something up not like anyone has never done that before. i always like ninja films you could like fake n' bake one, or something. shadow skill was also a good anime movie but i don't think as many peaple have heard of it or seen it. Darkstalkers has a nice story behind it maby someone could play with that without fucking it up to much? There are so many titles Bubble gum crisis, Macross plus, Macross II, Robotec, Tri gun, Cowboy bebop, Blue sub6, Transformers, ect.

this is a bit off the subject, but i gotta bit of beef with you (the creator[s] of NG)...

these ads man. these ADS MAN! the ADS are too much, too many. i totally realize that a site of this magnitude needs to be paid for and shit, but can't you fund some sponsors? i would MUCH rather see 100 ads on the screen, than this 20 auto refresh where the freggin things pop up all over me. so far, just writing what i have so far, i've had 3 pop ups...all of which interrupted my writing. 3 in just a minu----wait, there was another one----te or so. come on tommy fulpy boy. help us out. put the ads all over the screen, but make em STOP POPPIN UP on us. pleaase. (there was another ad) how are wew supposed to enjoy movies? 4 ads popped up when i tried to watch mario twins...all 4 sent the mario swf behind the main window.

Some of my favorite Anime shows are, Haunted Junction, Lum, Maison Ikkoku, and my all time favorite Ranma 1/2! (Lum, Maison Ikkoku, and Ranma 1/2 are made by the same creator, Rumiko Takahashi. She inspires me into writing my own story, and soon my own TV series). Thers also another Anime show I've herd of it looks pritty good. What I've herd from other people they really like it. Its called Slayer. Well, those are some of the flash anime I'd like to see in the Portal. Ok bye.

I think its cool that NG is trying to bring some more anime to the site. Vash off of TRIGUN is probably my favorite character, aside from Spike from Cowboy Bebop. What bothers me is all the posers are gonna start thinking anime is cool and just posting horrible stuff... But oh well. Some one should try making a movie on these animes as well:
