It doesn't matter who's elected President in '08, we are staying there for good. We have been in Germany and Japan for over 60 years and we have no intentions of leaving there. A case could be made for Japan because of N. Korea, but really Japan is more than rich enough to support a major military (It is though Japan could develop a working nuclear bomb in as little as 3 weeks). Germany is really not needed anymore as the cold war ended 17 years ago and NATO and the European Union makes war among European Powers almost impossible. Yet, we are going to stay there.

Just so you know, we have US bases in foreign countries, but that doesn't mean we are they're military. And notice how you never hear stories about japanese suicide bombers blowing up US soldiers and civilians.
We're in Iraq for the long term unless the new president can gain enough support to Leave iraq, then silence any media about any 'negative' stories that would occur afterwards as the result of an implosion. [This is to say, that troops are withdrawn before stability is acheived, notice how in japan, stability exists]
In any case, alot of corruption would be involved, Meh, but none of the new world order conspiracy theorists are going to complain as long as it's done for the greater good of society.
On a moving train there are no centrists, only radicals and reactionaries.

As for Japan research a little more and you'd notice that most of our Military presence is leaving in the next few years to go to Guam.

Welcome to reality, we've been waiting for you for quite some time now.

Yeah, but they can't support a military because of their terms of surrender after WW2, therefore they are dependent upon us for military support should Kim Jong Ill go apeshit and start bombing them, which is more likely than them achieving an ICBM and hitting San Diego or any other spot on the west coast.
Yet, we are going to stay there.
Why shouldn't we? What military advantage does it give US to just vacate the place?

Oh we'll be out of Iraq sometime, its basically a remix of Vietnam but with Muslim Extremists and Terrorist. If they're Guerrilla warfare doesn't get us out it'll be our own citizens.

Oh we'll leave eventually, and when we do the whole region will fall apart again. As much as Sadam was an evil bastard the sad truth is that there is so much turmoil in that part of the world that unless the people are afraid of their leader they're going to kill him. And that sort of situation isn't going to change, there are too many deep rooted problems stemming from religious and tribal warfare and those aren't going to go away. Iraq was not a model country and Sadam was certainly no great person, but he did maintain a stable country (relatively speaking). And with him gone it's not stable anymore and it probably never will be. I'm sure we'll leave though once the leaders finally accept that it is literally impossible to win this war in any sort of traditional sense. Any leader we put in place that is not a dictator is going to be toppled fairly quickly once we're out though.

We just need a situation we can vaguely call a victory(and we need someone other than Mr. Mission Accomplished to call it), then we can safely pull out. To pull out now would be to tell terror organizations that they can fuck with us and we'll do what they want us to.

We don't necessarily have to stay there. Once we get a Democratic President, we are getting our asses out of there. We never needed to be in Iraq and we sure as hell don't need to fuck with Iran.
When all else fails, blame the casuals!

either were gonna be stuck there for quite a while to come, or (IMHO) were gonna get ficked up by more extremeists who see our early withdrawal(early as in before the job is actually done) as an act of cowardice. cue massive terrorist bombings...in the US.

Dude, I don't think we should have gotten in there in the first place either. I did at the time, but looking back it was a major fuck up.
BUT, to say that we should just pull out abruptly is either uninformed, stupid, or both. We are facing terrorists who want us out. Problem is giving terrorists what they want is showing them that their methods work, which in turn leads to more terrorism. They'll be able to rally more people to their cause and will have a stronger will to come at us in the future. We can not sensibly say that is a good thing.
