Honestly, considering it's an obvious rip-off and the games are (for the most part) boring I can easily say PC gaming blows.

It's expensive. To actually run your games at a higher resolution than a console, you'll fork out thousands. Look at Crysis, one of the most anticipated first person shooters. To run it on recommended settings you need:

Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz
Memory - 2GB RAM

GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

You may meet the first two requirements if you bought a computer recently, but the graphic card is a sizzling 400 bucks alone. Golly, that's a whole Xbox 360 or PS3. A PC from Dell will cost you 2639 dollars, nearly 2800 with the game and taxes. Fuck, that's a 360 or PS3 with 40 games! And a Wii with 51 games!
Seriously guys is it really worth having an extra 3 pixels for every square inch resolution? Especially if it can hit the $3000 mark?

As for the games, yeah you gotta few gems like SimCity, DEFCON, Civilization, or Myst. But ultimately, most are just Command and Conquer, Doom, and Diablo rip-offs. If you've played any RTS, FPS, or MMORPG and your PC, you're played them all. The same shit happens in all these genres:

RTS: Build structures to produce units. Build units to defend base. Build more units and storm the enemies base.

FPS: Shoot, shoot, throw a grenade, shoot some more. Than sit back for a few cut-scenes and wonder why the character is a fucking mute.

MMORPG: Run around, kill random mythical creatures, than go on stupid quests to recover stupid shit while on a mythical creature genocide. As your level get higher, your social life gets lower. You'll realize that you speak to people only about once a week, that when you meet any of your former friends you'll force the game upon them, and you will stay up to 5 AM playing the game on weekdays than stop. Either that, you die of fatigue.

Yeah, fun. This is why I don't give a flying fuck about games like Crysis. I don't care about the graphics, it's still the same when it comes to game play. It really hasn't changed that much since Doom or Marathon. And the story is so cliche; you're an elite commando on an island and you gotta defeat known bad-guys (north koreans) and aliens. The Mission: rescue some scientists. You'll use a super suit to help you. Gee I never heard of that before!

If you don't like it, then don't buy them. PC games have their place in the gaming world as the more sophisticated multiplayer choices among other things. As well, you can't merely group games into catagories as you did. There are so many things these games have different about them. Of course, by you logic, all console games would have the same problems eh?

Did you hear what I said? It gives you a boner!

yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head with that. i can agree with run and shoot, play till 5am, and building units for the sole purpose of doing it again in 2 hours once youre done toying with the enemy. but its games like that that keep me from going insane with all this damn work at college. sometimes you need a break from reality.

Well, I agree, but you know, Sov is right too, they are throwing out FPS's left and right, although, RTS isn't the same over and over, AOE3 And Civ4 are a lot different. And by gaming is good, but is it worth it, i meant, FPS's.

Well, why not play different games? There are other genres that can distract you from reality.

Normally I'm not a graphics whore, but Crysis is amazing.

I think it is taking it to the next level, not to mention the physics look incredible. It's shaping up to be a great game, and I can't wait until I get it.

I'm definitely pushing the age limits of my computer (must be 3-4 years old). Hopefully I won't need to upgrade when Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 come out.

Haha, oh wow. The games of this generation can be played on a PC rig that costs about $900 to make. I enjoyed your propaganda and generalization of games however.

While I also don't like PC gaming, it is still an option, because when you get yourself a good Rig* then you can also use it for nongaming things, at higher speeds.

Do you know what a PC is?

So surely, you can see that they have other applications, and that the price is perfectly justified?

Rig ain't a mod.

I somewhat agree unless your some computer whizz who knows a good deal when your faced with specs and price. I'll just keep with semi-recent pc games.

This is true, and what OP is saying about computer parts had slightly more merit back then.

However, a Crysis ready rig can be build for something a little shy of $600, these days. I still think PC gaming will always > Consoles in the respect that games actually do look amazing.

Games that don't have quality choices are the better ones. Diablo, Diablo II + LOD Expansion, Warcraft III + Expansion. I've played Diablo II: Lord of Destruction the entire time it's been out. Eight years. Eight years of Bashing skulls in. I'm truly dedicated to these kinds of games. Next to that Diablo II LOD doesn't change much, but it's really cool to get some shit, get other people some shit, etc.

TL;DR above paragraph: Play games that aren't new. A lot better to play the older ones, that are cheaper (but somewhat better) and not waste $1000 JUST TO PLAY ONE FUCKING GAME!

I do agree we have to many used up genres, it's hard to come up with fresh ideas for games these days...

This topic has been bumped, at the time of the posting, the price for a lot of the listed items was massively more than right now, prices of computer components drop vastly over only a few months. I built a computer that can run crysis - when I update my graphics card next month - and the total cost will have been under £500, which is around $750, 18 months ago this would have cost double.

Now we know what you think. PC gaming is awsome (you get MMOs, and mods, and a bunch of other things you cant do on a console).
