i will judge,... but i will ONLY judge ambiant. I cant judge DNB as i hate the genre and it all sounds like crap to me :P

Since everyone is joining these competitions, maybe I should just try for the heck of it. xD

I'm so fuxed! I've already got a subtracted score on this contest because of older submissions are all I have for now. I wish I had more time at home to whip out and produce at least one track for this contest, but I've got so many things going on at this point in time in my life.

Of course, my judging system is relatively simple:

Older submissions will not get an automatic -10% Instead, they will be given a +9-12 credit but for every month prior to the deadline submitted, they will get a .9 modifier which will then be premultiplied by an overall modal base which will be determined by a number of things not the least of which will be the number of entries that suck divided by the number of kick-ass entries scoring more than two standard deviations higher than the submission in question.
(keep in mind that this only applies to older submissions)

For NEW submissions, the exact opposite system will be used but instead of premultiplying, there will be a single modifier based on a simple hash algorithm that uses a substitution cipher where root notes are converted into base 10 numerals then shifted one place to the left based on the bpm.

I know I'm not explaining it that clearly but trust me - It's all very simple.

So, in other words, older submissions in this contest will be given a negative point deduction based on how well it has done or is doing in the AP now and how many months it has been in the AP? If this is the case, I'm so screwed, mainly on the last part.

Basically, I've always felt that the MAC is more about creating new content.

Older submissions will be accepted but they better damn sure be something incredible, otherwise every person that ever created anything even resembling ambient or DnB could drop four links in here just to see what happens... We might as well just do away with the deadlines and competition altogether and talk Tom into having us comb over the AP for good songs so that each month he can just send a check to that guy that made that cool song that one time...

I'm not saying that an older submission cannot and will not have a chance of winning - it just needs to be a really damn good one.

I have a question, genre-wise.

What if the ambient song is slightly more Downtempo instead of pure ambient. Would that be okay?

Some submissions I've heard for ambients so far could be categorized as downtempo more then ambients.

Make a call - if you can say to yourself "Yes, this fits the ambient genre well enough" then plop a link in here and we'll see what happens. However, if you really feel that "It's close to ambient...sort of...but..." then save the ideas for another month - we'll be doing different "genre vs." MAC's in the future.
