Never met anyone out of the blue. I went with oliver to some manchester festival once. Parklife or something. It was rainy so it was a bummer. Also oliver was there so thats a bummer too.

Also I havent pasted anything here in awhile. I've been doing grunt work so I've been listening to music more so than usual. I was on a polka craving earlier this week. Its not bad, if you give it a chance.

Do you guys call anything a 'gig'. i always pictured a gig being in a sweaty claustrophobic place, grimy and dirty. Not a sold out stadium/arena.

I thought a gig was what a band was supposed to call it.

That could be why when I told someone "I have a gig on Sunday", they asked what instrument I played in my band.

I'm not in a band.

It is. "Gig" essentially means job.

like you became friends and then a show came up and you both went and wow friends!

More of the other way round, really but really more of who my sister adds. She's added some who we've seen at some shows in London. I've not added them myself but she does get along well with them.

Lucky for me I didn't go to a Mastodon show he may or may not have been at.

Nope. The term really is specific to the job side of the performance.

"the term, short for the word "engagement", now refers to any aspect of performing such as assisting with performance and attending musical performance." quote from your first link that says otherwise

o dayum u got me

Funny that it says that, considering pretty much every source I checked refers to it either as slang for the word "job" or what musicians call a paid show. Perhaps I should've actually read what the Wikipedia page said before I linked to it.

well, you're still pretty much right. the beginning of the article mentions the original term was referring to paid musicians, but the quote I quoted has "now" in it because the definition has changed over time.

I hate it when that sort of thing happens.

People use a term incorrectly enough and it becomes accepted as normal.

I'm not too sure what genre these bands fall under but I've been listening to stuff that's a bit different to my usual bands of choice:

Clutch
Halfway To Gone
Dixie Witch
Brand New Sin

I guess they're all sort of hard rock / Southern rock. Really liking this kind of stuff at the minute.

clutch is borderline stoner rock, they're from a town like 40 minutes away from me. pretty good band.

Madlove's "White with Foam" is a pretty good introductory album ... actually it's there only one that has 2,973 listeners.
