Hmph. I'm just about to turn 15 this next month, and I haven't been listening to metal near as much as I used to recently. At first it was kind of awkward stepping out of it for a moment, but its good to go for something different once in a while. Nothing but metal gets pretty tiring after nearly a straight year of it.

I never really listened to metal, so I am just finding some good stuff now. I ignore all the what I consider stupid metal that "true" metalheads listen to that's totally br00tal and kvlt. And also fuck Metallica.

That's lame, are you going to be dissed over the internet for liking indie hipster music like MGMT?

:( NMH shouldn't be considered hipster at all! Jeff Mangum quit the game in 1999 before indie was popular and before there even were hipsters.

That is just a stupid statement. True Metal isn't about stuff that is brutal or underground. The stuff like Metalcore and Nu-Metal that we consider false is all to do with the other content outweighing the Metal influence. Its essentially either Pop-Punk, Hardcore or Hard Rock music that uses to Metal image to appear edgier and alternative... fuck yeah, we're unique!

Being an elitist doesn't mean the only stuff you can consider Metal is Death and Black. There are plenty of subgenres where clean vocals are dominant and the melodies are lovely.

I didn't really mean "true metal" so I'm sorry for offending. I meant that a lot of metal (IMO) is just ridiculously cheesy, stereotypical, fake satan-worshipping metal. I'm not sure how to explain what I mean, I don't want to say... unintelligent music but I guess that's what I think to myself.

Fair enough, sorry I misunderstood you :).
There is a lot of that and I think if you merely skim the surface that is what you'll see a lot of. But there is so many Metal bands that are worthy of being called intelligent.

But its not like its the only genre with a stereotype. Rock has the whole debauchery and excess thing. And while that used to mean something it doesn't anymore. To me thats just as silly.

Yeah, metal died out for me when I was about that age. Before then, it was always Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica. Now, metal can sometimes bore me and I like listening to chip tunes, jazz, and alternative stuff.

How about we settle everything like this: If one is knowledgeable of a certain genre of music (Isn't full of shit), he or she may speak of it! If the case fails to be true, one shall not speak a word about it. Questions in respect to the genre may be asked though (As long as they're also.. not full of shit). No need to thank me and my brilliance.

What I like to do with the majority of my time is: Shredding, Sketching, Sleeping. Thread for Rigz. Thread for Shredz.

Listen to Loch Raven by Animal Collective, it's not crazy like most animal collective, its really peaceful and ambient-like, it's really inspiring.

If you're looking for more crazy Animal Collective, try The Purple Bottle.

eh.

this is what i recommended to CapnCrunch:

my favorite albums are, in order, Sung Tongs, Strawberry Jam, Merriweather Post Pavilion/Feels (tied), Here Comes the Indian, and then the rest of their stuff (because I haven't listened to it as much).

i could give you a song-by-song analysis of every album, but I don't want to right now. I'll go into more detail later.

Actually, their first album (Spirit They're Gone Spirit They've Vanished) is REALLY cool too, which is weird because the stuff after that is way more experimental and noise. Chocolate Girl.

Oh I know, so far I love Spirit They're Gone, but I haven't listened to it countless times like the other albums, so i can't really rate it against the others.

'cause I like noise hahaha. I like the contrast between their catchy, somewhat poppy melodies, and the screaming and banging and electronic noise.
