I'll look at my neighbor's charts every once in a while. It's cool how some stuff can be so different from what I listen to but still a super rating is possible because of top artists.

So me and my friends have been competing a bit over our scaicha scores, essentially it measures how diverse your music taste is, so nev will have a high score while williwowza would have quite a low one (in fact, most people who listen to metal will have quite high scores but that's just because of overclassification imo but whatever lets not try and start an argument here)

And essentially where when I came to uni I listened to pretty much indie and indie only, so had a ludicrously low score (~85 I think) now I listen to electronica, hip-hop, rock, and, erm, folk, so now my score fluctuates around 124.

Anyway

I've been addicted to The Ocarina of Rhyme lately. A bunch of rappers took famous music clips from the Ocarina of Time and they made a song out of it. Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Aesop Rock, Dr. Dre, Common, and more are on the album, and it's so nostalgic, catchy, and awesome, all at the same time.

Mine does that a lot too, it's annoying.

So anybody know why it Last.fm likes to take random songs from my iPod's recently played list and say that I've listened to them more than once at the exact same time? Erasing one of them ends up deleting them both once I refreshed the list. Not a huge deal, it's just one of those things that bothers me. If I'm going to keep track of what I listen to it might as well be tracked correctly.

And here's my delicious-looking Scaicha pie chart which, for the record, I don't give much validity to because apparently every song that's released from England regardless of what it is, is in the same genre. Also, the same thing can be said of 70s and 80s music, but not the 90s or our current decade.

I'm pretty sure it's to do with the way that it scrobbles plays from your iPod. If you listen to the same song twice, then sync your ipod, it'll send the data of the "date last played" from the iPod to the computer, as long with the increase in playcount.

Last.FM will intercept this and will know that you listened to that song twice, and the last time you listened to it was at 03:04am 05/06/07 or whenever... however itunes doesn't keep data of when was the time before last you listened to the song... so doesn't remember that. So Last.FM never finds out.

So when it updates your last.fm profile page, it just leaves all of the plays it found at that last listened to time.

Because it knows no better.

Of course this is complete postulation and I have not a shred of proof.
But I guess it's something along those lines.
