Which is never the case because any game you purchase, you do not own. Instead, you own the rights to use said product under the licensing agreement you consent to in the form of paying. And 99999/100000 times, the licenser (developers/retailers/distributors) forbid the duplication of their product in any way shape or form for any reason. Legally, you cannot even let another person play your copy of a game.

It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.
This is ridiculous. So I can have a back up as long as I make the back up copy? so if I wanted to make a back up copy of my snes games how the hell would I go about doing that? I would have to go out of my way to find some snes cartridge adapter for my computer (which nintendo would probably say is illegal) just to make a back up.
Are Game Copying Devices Illegal?
Yes. Game copiers enable users to illegally copy video game software onto floppy disks, writeable compact disks or the hard drive of a personal computer. They enable the user to make, play and distribute illegal copies of video game software which violates Nintendo's copyrights and trademarks. These devices also allow for the uploading and downloading of ROMs to and from the Internet. Based upon the functions of these devices, they are illegal.
so here are they saying I'm not allowed to make backup copies of my games.
The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic
but here says this is the only time back up copies can be made

I actually agree with the OP. You might do illegal shit, but do not try to justify yourself with half-assed explanations. Just say, "OK, I do it illegally because it's free." Not, "I play illegal ROMs only because the game developers make it so hard!" Or, "Those LEGAL companies are trying to make money off intellectual property (in a capitalist society), but I'm going to stick it to the Man!" These types of excuses just make you seem retarded.
Admit you're doing something illegal. Doing that doesn't mean you're going to suddenly stop doing it.

well think about it this way,
If all those illegal things were removed from the internet, what the hell would we do? All that'd be left on it would be porn and shitty websites that have to do with bowling and what not.

The weird thing is that when you download fansubs of non-copyrighted movies (Whether in Japan, China, or elsewhere) and its recognized, people still thinks its illegal, which it definitely isn't.

You are so right. I feel like shit now. By downloading Super Mario World, I have dealt a deadly blow to Nintendo's sales. I mean really, thats one less sale for a game that was made in 1991. Man do I feel like shit.
And don't even get me started on downloading music. Limewire makes bands and artist's poor. I mean seriously, Michael Jackson only has one ferris wheel in his park now. If no one downloaded his music, he would have three! Why god? Why do us selfish bastards steal music from millionaires? I am so sorry to any artist who's songs I have downloaded illegally.
Sarcasm?

I've never told anyone this before, but I cracked Photoshop, Illustrator, WinRaR, and Flash, and download a bunch of free music.
I am ashamed.
