Why is Burma's gov crackdwn dissent

Would'nt it be much easier to listen to the protesters then to go around shooting them? What exactly is their government trying to accomplish by killing monks and protesters? It does not make much sense.

They're a repressive dictatorship. It's what they do best.
It normally happens because the regime in charge is extremely paranoid about the nation descending into anarchy and chaos if they loose their grip a little bit. Or because they're scared shitless, with or without reason (mostly without, since otherwise things tend to evolve into all-out civil war instead of one-sided slaughter), of a group in particular. (As in, "OH NO COMMIES", "OH NO SEPERATISTS", "OH NO TERORISTS", "OH NO PEOPLE WITH GLASSES")

They fail to relize they are actually bringing the nation into anarchy by killing protesters and not listening to them. Its like OH NO MONKS!!!!!!! THEY ARE GOING TO KILL US!!!!!! RUN AWAY!!!! (Seriously how can anyone be afraid of monks)

For your information I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!!! Someone comented that the Junta's crackdown results from being a paranoid government. So how can a government be afraid of monks?
