This is a reminder that on Saturday I'll sort out the 5 winners of the complimentary Blank based on the most promising concepts put up here.

I'm going to start on mine today i think. For people who already have em please share any findings/discoveries you come across. We are all relatively new to this form of art so it would be cool to learn from each other and feed off of information/experiences people had in customizing these things.

I've used tempera paint and its finish comes off very flat. I found that useful for skin tones. I found that tempera takes many coats and scratches easy. Acrylic has a semi glossy finish. I found that useful for clothing and hair. It does do a better job in terms of coverage, two coats is all i needed. And if i mess up i can just peel off the acrylic and start over.

I'd be interested to know how hot glued items work on these or how well clay interacts with it.

I just ordered myself two WZLs. They should arrive in a few days. I have one idea for one but I'l not sure what I am going to do with the second. I think I am going to try using a hot glue gone on one of them though, Luis, So I'll let you know how that goes.

Also, please post what you guys are using to paint or mark yours up. I'd love to know how certain techniques work out...

On a side note heres my entry its pretty simplistic but I wouldn't want to add details until I got a feel for the munny and seen its real dimensions.

i didnt really say anything about unnoriginal per say, i was just saying dont base it on nintendo/sega/halo/insert commercial property here.

thats boring. theres plenty of mario toys, theres plenty of zelda merchandise.. theres even a ton more of halo shit for people to already buy... you want to make something that is:

1) unique and special its one of a kind

2) something that centers around the unique characters that newgrounds has to offer.. dad'n'me, alien hominid, pico, blockhead, etc etc etc

This is a ng contest .. of course you can use ng related characters. i was more commenting on people referencing things like Master Chief and other commercial properties.

trust me dont use sharpies. if you're EXTREMELY careful, you could make some nice crisp lines at the end when you color your outlines. but sharpies just dont remove off of the blank. i bought a black prismacolor that makes the lines smooth and dark AND comes off. (probably works with rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover, but i use acetone)

Yeah, I was wondering about this when I got mine today. To me it looks like what you listed as the back and what you listed as the front of the Munny go the other way around, like he's holding his belly in the front. It just kind of seems unnatural for him to be standing around with his arms in handcuffed position behind his back.

It's not a huge deal to me, but I just was wondering if we should directly follow that or if we have some kind of latitude in deciding the front and the back for ourselves. I don't really care about being dropped from the competition if I send mine the other way around, that's not why I'm doing one, I just would like to know if you have that preference or not, if it would be too deviant to color mine the other way round.

Well the beauty of these blanks is that the 'back' could work as a front and vice versa so you're welcome to pick which side you want the front to be.

The only reason why i didnt post both sides at the beginning of this thread is because i didnt want people to whine about why they had to design both sides if its just a concept sketch. So for the sake of not confusing anyone i just wanted people to conceptualize something and then when you get the figurine you decide how to make it work based on your concept.

That brings me to my next point, dont feel like you are absolutely committed to your concept. Obviously doing something thats 2d and 3d is much different and you may have issues come up that you arent able to forsee right now. Maybe youll need to change things up. Go for it. Just make it atlleast VAGUELY resemble what you bad conceptualized.

Hey luis, did you ever post who the lucky 15 artist to get one where? I'm guessing Rtil, and ZekeySpaceLizard are among those 15? Or is it a secret as to who those 15 are?

I'll post a full list when i sort out which ones won the 5 free ones. The artists who got one of the 15 are required to return them. the people who win free ones dont have to. same applies to those that bought their own.

Even if you get a free one wouldn't you want to return it so that you know your art will be sitting in the NG office,Its like it being displayed in a museum.

Cool, can't wait. I bought my own and will be starting it soon. Really hyped to see what everyone comes up with. I always wanted to do these, but I didn't know where to get them but now I know. Thanks Man!

Naturally. I know i would. But I can imagine after putting so much work into it. Some people may become attached to it. So I have to leave it up to them ya know?
