that must have taken you so long!! it looks great!
if it is a NG character, i'm sorry, i dont know them. what is it from?
also, what kind of tools do people use to make the pumpking thinner like that, without putting a hole through it?
GAH!

Hey thanks man! Its not a NG character, its Pinhead from the movie Hellraiser. It took about 4 hours to do.
To carve the pumpkin it was multi stage:
1. Prep pumpkin normally. Try to leave as much rind as possible, more surface to carve into.
*NOTE THAT EVERY FOLLOWING STEP MUST BE DONE OUTSIDE.*
2. Peel off top layer of skin. For all the following steps I used a Dremol with different bits. I used a metal cone shaped bit for the peeling.
3. Draw the image you want to carve.
4. Start carving.
Helpful tips:
- There is alot of depth to the rind usually. To test depth, get a paperclip. You'll see how deep you can go by poking through and looking at the other side.
- After you have cut the rind down by half size that section won't support much weight so try not to make it a load bearing (rar) part.
- The detail is in the tools. The smaller the knife, the better the carve.
- Don't be afraid to carve from the inside to bring out more light in certain areas, like eyes.
- A light bulb inside the pumpkin and a dark workplace are ideal for finishing touches.
Here's a Hank pumpkin I carved last year, I'm making a better one this year.
Fixed the glare, the hair is a sheet of green plastic

Here's my Pirates of the Caribbean pumpkin. It doesn't look like the original very much (from the logo) but I'm pleased with it.

also, that must have taken like 3 black markers to color it all in
no, a used a sharpie paint pen. and i didn't color the whole thing.. just the fron so that at night it would stand out more. I couldn't get a goos picture of it at night though..........
While not NG-related, I still like my new one for this year:
Uh.. carve a pumkin to depict a NG character? Or just NG related stuff?.. T.T
Merry Ghostmas everyone! I hope you like my submission. If you could vote 5...then VOTE 5 =P. Hope you all like it.
If your woudering its merry ghostmas with block head on it, his number 1 eye patch and the foam finger that says number 1 on it.
I'd say NG renouned characters. though there are a few submissions that don't relate to anything haha.

Well... I didn't know y'all were havin' the carving contest...but now I'm glad I carved my pumpkin like this... I was gonna do something else but it wasn't turnin' out... So, I stole the angry face pumpkin idea from the front page... Anyway...DO NOT AVERT THY EYES... XD
Last year I made a topic for jack-o-laterns. Its inspiration? A pumpkin carving party at my house with my girlfriend Lauren and two close friends, Mike and Talya. The results, though grainy, can be found here.. This year we planned the 2nd Annual Carve-o-fest, delighting in anticipation of deviating from the standard triangle-eyed, crooked mouth of the traditional jack-o-lantern once again. Imagine my joy when I happened upon this thread! Now the prospects of the party not only included a good semi-inebriated time, but a chance to win some stuff and at the very least project flickering NG themes upon the trick-or-treating public.
And so it was. Lauren and I did NG pumpkins while Mike and Tal opted for cut-out designs.
This is my lit carving, inspired by this flash.
Lauren will post hers some time tomorrow, then one of us will post the group shot.

Grow your own. Get someone from America to send you seeds and grow your own. Hell you can sell the rest and make a big profit.

So one of my favourite series on NG is Salad Fingers, but there was already a very nice pumpkin on the halloween-themed banner. In the end, I had to chose between sketches of Dad and Me, Castle Crashers and the little boy from Salad Fingers, as I don't think he has another name.
I thought we would have done well and won, but there's quite a few amazing submissions up in here.
So here's the flash. And here's my pumpkin, I'm not altogether too happy with the way it turned out, I think I could have made it more detailed.

Yeah I know, but since everybody else was posting other stuff like hellraiser and mortal kombat, I thought 'what the hell', just stick it up there for fun. It was done with some kitchen tools cus I didn't have any professional pumpkin carving kit, but it still stood out compared to the other neiboughhood ones.
I had a pumpkin, but I threw it at a car...
Mabye I should of carved it first...
