that must have taken you so long!! it looks great!
if it is a NG character, i'm sorry, i dont know them. what is it from?
also, what kind of tools do people use to make the pumpking thinner like that, without putting a hole through it?
Hey thanks man! Its not a NG character, its Pinhead from the movie Hellraiser. It took about 4 hours to do.
To carve the pumpkin it was multi stage:
1. Prep pumpkin normally. Try to leave as much rind as possible, more surface to carve into.
*NOTE THAT EVERY FOLLOWING STEP MUST BE DONE OUTSIDE.*
2. Peel off top layer of skin. For all the following steps I used a Dremol with different bits. I used a metal cone shaped bit for the peeling.
3. Draw the image you want to carve.
4. Start carving.
Helpful tips:
- There is alot of depth to the rind usually. To test depth, get a paperclip. You'll see how deep you can go by poking through and looking at the other side.
- After you have cut the rind down by half size that section won't support much weight so try not to make it a load bearing (rar) part.
- The detail is in the tools. The smaller the knife, the better the carve.
- Don't be afraid to carve from the inside to bring out more light in certain areas, like eyes.
- A light bulb inside the pumpkin and a dark workplace are ideal for finishing touches.
