trying to get a sort a slightly different 2d vector style than the 2d vector style I usually do. More an experiment in color theory than anything.
didnt think it was worth its own thread, but the art forum is full of contests and "draw madniss mareo lol" I didnt have anywhere to put it, really. OH WELL.
Test for echo
I rather like it. The colors are quite awesome, the flying monster thingy seems kind of out of place though, but maybe that's just me.
Defintely deserves its own thread too, at least if you compare it to all the other shit people post around here.
I don't want to sound like I'm pulling criticism out of my ass, because that's basically what everyone on this forum does. But the manner in which you flip back and forth between gradient shading and vector/cell shading just seems weird to me. I can't really complain about your use of either shading technique, because they're both lovely, but I don't think they handshake when used together. I'm not really one to talk though, seeing as I almost never post art here, and thus can't prove that I'm a guru at colouring or shading. :p
I like the picture, btw.
That's amazing! Pretty sweet Invader Zim/ Samurai Jack type stuff right there, the only thing I don't like is how the big black/yellow monster on the left sort of doesn't fit with the rest. I can't quite put my finger on it, but maybe it's just because the shapes are too erratic or the lines on the edge are too thick.
Also, awesome background work!
Also, feel free to make as many threads as you like, seriously, have you looked at this forum lately?
Lawl.
I agree with pox. You are amazing. Wait, thats what he said right? Anyways, i love the touch of every detail and shading in the pic. Yeah, indeed a Samurai Jack sort of style if thats where youre heading for. Shweet.
i think it looks good. the only thing i can critic on is the monster, maybe it is the thick outline but everything else looks really good. Your work is making a fan out of me. Oh and loved your halloween movie. Keep up the great work
My sig won't change!!!
i think this is the first time i ever noticed how the color scheme really popped out here. it lends a feeling of slight unrest or chaos. i really like the subtle blue fog in the far background. it gives a nice illusion of distance.
the gradient shading feels a bit out of place, but that's really my only complaint.

It's an expiriment in greatness, it really is. I like everything about it. You could post multiple threads about this and I wouldn't care. Zekey is win.
This sig is 100% effective protection from all hexes, curses, evil spirits and bad karma. Guaranteed.
Great use of colors and crisp style. Nothing to criticze really. excelent

I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO CRITICIZE BUT I COULDN'T FIND DICK. YOU MAY HAVE WON THIS ROUND FAGGOT BUT NEXT TIME YOU WONT BE SO LUCKY.
Great thread, great style but the big monster thingy on the left's art style is different which puts it out of place. Ultra cool style - like Samurai Jack.
well this went better than I thought.
if it helps any, the balloony black monster thing with the saggy boob arms is meant to look like he doesnt belong.
the original sketch of this was that the girl zombie elf chick gal on the right was walking a bunch of alien dogs. each one looking completely different like they'd come out of different dimensions.
but being a lazy piece of shit, I ended up only doing two of the dogs. and making the backround more of a focus than the foreground.
anyway
as long as this topic is active, I took the poster that's stuck on the wall behind the blue girl and decided to upgrade it somewhat.
it looks like some sort of circus advertisement to me. what do you guys think?

Lol yeah it does. On the other hand, it looks like Pacman has found the appreciation in eating bugs as well. I dont like bugs tho, but here still... theyre cute. The background is very random. Mmm lobster...
Evil spelled backwards is Live and we all want to do that now don't we.
Deny the big lie, don't beLIEve and don't conform.
Colors on the poster you most recently posted are too close in hue and it looks muddy in my opinion. As for the very first picture, I think its great, the only thing that is out of place is that the blob monsters shadow makes no sense
None
Picture looks great zekey. The city background looks interesting, the big bubbly design for those buildings gives it a nice futuristic feel. The sky color is a soft interesting yellow, and the BG goes from light purple, to purple, to the more foregroundish color of maroon. A nice little fence in the alley helps give us more depth. I ask myself, what could be living inside of those trash cans, perhaps another interesting zekey creation just feeding on some garbage. Then a little more into the foreground we have those two buildings, one with a gadient, one with three colors... interesting. The side of the red building is solid colors, but the front is 2 colors, and a gradient. The doors also contain some fancy gradient / non-gradient work. Quite interesting, and a little odd. The bug on the wall looks a bit out of place. The poser on the wall looks cute, that little mouth gasping those lines / tongue... thing, looks adorable, i'd attend whatever alien event that was. I really like the original sketch, the colors are very bright and vibrant, but would really distract from the picture, so you had to nerf the brightness :P I looove his eye in the full color version. The girl looks like she's having a hard time containing this... giant monster at the end of her leash, an interesting character design, can't quite put my finger on the style it reminds me of, i like her color scheme. The dog looks pretty good, but doesn't look like an earth dog... i wonder what sound would come out of it's mouth as it howls at the big... floaty thing. The floaty thing looks quite 2D for this pic, lacking gradients. He's got a big happy smile, and some interesting little leg.. thingies. I understand that it was a coloring experiment, but the monster looks a little out of place, not horribly, he looks fine... i dunno, something about his eyes looks off to me, but he still looks good.
I dunno why I bother critiquing your shit, or reviewing your movies zekey, when all i get is a "blargen blargen i'm a big fat feckle named zekey"
I've changed my mind, your picture sucks and i hope you burn in hell you fat assed space lizard >:U
I'm still sorting out coloring techniques with my own art, so I'm definitely no expert on the subject. But I'd have to say this looks quite good for that new style of gradients without outlines. It's not easy to get depth that way . I see a few very minor issues with the shading on the first picture. Like the station's left wall being darker towards the corner. That seems like it should get darker starting from that corner going back towards the street in the background. But since the non-human characters are so surreal anyway, anything out of the ordinary is oddly fitting for that scene.

pretty awesome, looks like a cool postcard, great atmosphere, and use of colors.
the dogs pretty awesome
Hey, I´ve noticed what the black pet(apart from the fact that it projects shadow in a different direction than the rest of the objects in the same axis.).
It seems that it has a solid black outline. There´s nothing more in the picture with that. This is produced by that highlight from the right... changing the color of the monster or the shape of the highlight or using a less solid black would do the trick.
Oh, and you´ve become a name I´ll be looking to in this forum. Just too cool pic.
wow, that looks awesome, but whatup with the big massive thick outline on the top half big monster?
I love the little barking dog. It makes me want to animate a little dog exactly like it. Meh.
