4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsWhen I run flash 8 and click on my newest animation which I haven't even begun 10 seconds worth of animation on (not even passed 80 frames.) My memory goes up to 200,000 to 800,000 with Flash 8. I opened up an old flash document and it runs at 60,000 which is fine. It's just whenever I open up this one it goes crazy.
Any explanations??????? I have 1g of memory and my computer is like 4 years old, but it handled everything else. It can handle Counter-Strike Source.

the reason no one has answered is because what you think the problem is, is really not the problem! I think that the problem is the fact that you have way too many other programs opened at the same time which causes flash to retard or malfunction.

No dude. Obviously..........you're stupid.
I clearly stated that when I open up any of my older flash FLA files that they run at 60k. It's only this one that isn't even 100 frames yet.
Too clarify
I don't have anything else running that is doing any major mem usage.
is it realy necessary to insult me for trying to help you?!
If you've already imported heaps of files into the library, then it'd lag even if you don't have any frames up. Also, how big is the .fla?

14.6mb. Library is empty atm.
Have you tried Save and Compact?
Other than that, I can't think of anything else.
yes, save and compact fixes everything, well not really

Tried - Still didn't work.
I have the same problem, only it happens when I open big scenes. Now when I say big, I don't necessarily mean long. I have a scene that is about two to three minutes. The reason it takes so long to load isn't the length, but the fact that the images within the scene are HUGE. These large images exceed the frame and are used for panning shots and such. Personally, I HATE flash 8, but I gotta deal with it.
Your problem could be one of these...
-If you have set your frame size larger than standard and the images for it are big, flash takes forever to load it up.
-If you have a normal frame size, but there is alot of imagery and layers WITHIN the frame, that could be the problem as well.
-Your computer is slow. Or flash 8 is too high memory of a program for it. (I doubt this is your problem, because you would've figured that out).
Now I've mostly stated what your problems may be. Here are a few potential solutions if the problem is what I think it is...
-Go to task manager and just double check if there is a bunch of other crap you didn't know about chewing up memory. Go to the processes section for this. It'll tell you how much memory each program is taking up. I get this problem alot. My computer loads about 9,000 processes that are completely unnecessary.
NOTE: this next one I've never tried, but a buddy of mine tells me its good...
-My friend told me about a program call "PC BOOSTER". At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was called. What this program does is it allows you to regulate how much memory each program uses. I asked my friend if this would screw up my programs and he told me "absolutely not. it monitors everything and keeps it all working fine". If I had actually used this program, I'd tell you more in detail. I would try it out just to see if it works. I'm sure you can download it on any torrent site (isohunt, etc.).
-Also maybe try copying all of your frames and pasting them into a new project. Save both and open the new one, see if it runs as slow.
-If all else fails, maybe just get rid of flash 8 and use an older version. They're all the same if you ask me.
Well I hope some of this helped. If not, I just wasted alot of both our time. Let me know if your problem is more complex than this and I'll see if I can further help.

14.6mb and it's not even 100 frames yet? Holy shit. Anything else we need to know about this fla? Shouldn't be so big. Unless of course, it's very graphic intense. Are you using filters or do you have alot of things on your stage at once?
I also had that problem, because I had huge scenery background that would be bigger than the frame itself. Then I used a v-cam and it worked :)
Hey, your computer is probably old and needs a new hard drive. OR, yes there is an OR, the flash you are using is saving uneseccary files on your hard drive. Check out the Macromedia Flash 8 program file.
Thats all from me!
Ah, filters and effects...The downfall of any laggy computer.
Thanks to everyone especially MOC productions. I'm gonna try out what you suggested..
I found when my version of flash 8 was lagging heaps turning down the number of undos' flash has to remember actually helped a significant amount.

Also keeping the actions tab closed may help if you have a lot of movie clips.
